The way I learned court meanings was by associating each court position with an element. Then, I could think about the intersection of that element with the element of the suit. I think that's what these cards have done. I noticed that all four Pages in this deck have some earth in the background, Knights fire, Queens water, and Kings air. It's not the most obvious of symbols but I think it's an effective way to differentiate the courts if you're familiar with that method!

LOL. Yeah. Should have read everyone's comments first as I just commented the same thing as everyone else!

This was an overwhelming surprise hit for me in 2020. It was such a clear reader for me. To help with the courts, I typically look around the eyes, the eyes are more feminine on the queen than the king. I also look at the page as a more primal energy in this deck. More of the embodiment of its element and then the rest of the courts as living embodiments. The page being a more uncontrollable element in this instance.

This was my favorite deck of 2020, and I didn't think anything would beat the Spacious Tarot. I journaled with this deck for almost the entire month of November and it was absolutely profound. This deck is how I see the tarot. Elemental associations for the courts can vary, and I was so happy to find a deck that reflects the associations that I use. The apothecary associations for the majors are icing on the cake.

Thanks for sharing this. I love the majors, and don't mind pip decks but it doesn't seem like they took much effort to make the pips attractive, just positioning the items on the background. Hope the artist/creator decides to bring out a fully illustrated deck someday because they're obviously capable of doing great work.

Wow, Simon, what an interesting deck. One thing I noticed with the courts is that the background image matches the element, and the page of each suit has a earth allusion, the knight a fire allusion, the queen, water, and the king air. They make one think, huh? Thanks for this great walk through as usual. Anne

As someone that studied the elements of tarot this deck appealed to me instantly. The court cards specially cause it is a fun challenge, it really makes you dive deep into them during a reading and associate with your knowledge. The pip cards because they rarely portray sth, are hard to read for a beginner but I'm ok with it (if for example they were arranged like in traditional RWS or interacting with each other, it could call out easily to the meaning as well. Now we need to either count the objects or look at the bottom number and tune into our intuition for what the cards are saying in that moment 🤔). I'm happy you liked the card stock, I was a bit turned off by other reviews but I think I'll see it for myself instead. I like the idea of imagining myself in those frames of time and space, as someone that always found people or animals in the card depictions that's really great. 😊 You can't deny it really respected it's name by working with the elements clearly.

It looks to me like each page has an element of earth like mountains, Knights all have fire, queens all have water, and kings have air.. its like in a little window behind the crowns on the Queen and King cards..and at the bottom of the card for the pages and knight. They are very pretty, I love the card backs. If I worked with pip decks, I would like this one.

Beautiful deck, wonderful presentation: I think the key to the court cards is to study the backgrounds - watery pages, fiery knights, earthy queens and intellectual kings. Tempting to add this one to my collection; I wonder how it would work with the Spacious Tarot and Earth Magic oracle. All the best for the New Year 😊

Well, I made it to the Hierophant before I ordered it. 😂. So much for not buying mass markets decks this year. But, I have to say as a person who is reluctant to bother with guidebooks, I really like the way they wrote the description of the card. And of course, the cards are lovely (and I am dying to trim and edge them).

Hopefully if someone picks this up as a starter deck, the guidebook will clear up any confusion about the court cards so it'll still be a good one. :)

On the Fool it's a Hedgehog. I would of loved a groundhog though, as I had one as a pet when I was a child.. I do like the cloud steps up to the sun. Definitely putting this deck on my wish list! You're right, it does look like a fox on card 5. lol Great way to paint the Lovers! One light, one dark to make a blending of the two. Does my eyes deceive me or is that a UFO in the Moon card? LOL Kudos if I am right to show we are not the only ones out there and that even advanced beings can have their own Moon moments.

About identifying the Court Cards, they have elemental symbols subtly in the background. For example the Knight of Cups is water with Fire. It IS very subtle and will take getting used to but I think I will use this deck as a Majors only deck.

I think the heart and feather on the scale may be a reference to Eygptian mythology. They believed that when you died your heart was weighed against the feather of Maat (the goddess of Truth and a Justice). If your heart was pure you were granted eternal life. If not it was fed to the monster Ammit.
@the_hermits_cave3 жыл бұрын
Yes, weighed by Anubis! 😃

Thanks for the video Simon. I have ordered the deck because I absolutely love the Majors. I will probably only use the Majors from the deck and combine with an oracle deck that has a similar theme and energy. The Hierophant card reminds me of the Buddha statue in Portmeirion Village - worth a google if you're interested! Happy New Year to you :-)
