I really hate it when the two are labeled as power baseline players. The game has evolved so much since the days of Davenport and Sharapova so it’s really unfair to keep forcing down new gen players with such an outdated label. This match clearly demonstrates the variety, finesse and strategy used by the two Slavic girls. Sure, their serves are deadly, but let’s not forget they can construct, volley, defend, net play and attack while in defensive positions.
@lukenelson19318 ай бұрын
This match was quite a lot of big hitting. Both women came to the net, but mostly just to finish points on short balls. Rybakina spiced in a couple drop shots, and she had a bit more variety overall I would say, but this was definitely a baseline war of attrition between two big servers. Seems you are trying to force it here, but that’s ok too. These Slavic girls are definitely multifaceted tennis players, even if this match wasn’t the best example of it.

The worst thing happened for Rybakina was the horrendous first set and beginning of the 2nd set from Sabalenka, it gave her a comfortable position where she didn't need to make any effort to get the points, Sabalenka was giving her freely then she relaxed, rested and when she needed to be in the rhythm of the final of the 3rd set it was late, she was cold and Sabalenka was climbing to her best level. Something similar happened in Brisbane's final but obviously on hardcourt Rybakina could finish it anyway. It's easy to say "it's a lesson to be learned never to relax throughout the match" from my position but I understand why Rybakina tried to save her energy while her opponent wasn't giving any fight, she played a 3hs match 24hs ago, again unlike Brisbane where she played about 3 hours throughout the whole tour so in the final she was full of energy.

@NN-zf7np No one is questioning her ability or talent. And her killer instinct or lack of thereof comes into play only when she plays Iga and Saba. It's similar to when Fed plays Rafa or Djokovic. His talent is good enough to beat the rest of the field, but when push comes to shove with Rafa/Djoko he has lost so many matches where he should have won, had he had the mentality of a street fighter. Rybakina is exactly in the same boat. Didn't you see the full match? It is Rybakinas for the taking.

@adipolida you do realise she beat Iga and Sabalenka in 2 finals this year. She also complained of physical exhaustion this tournament. Given all of that it was amazing she got to semis and came so close to winning. She just saved 3 match points the previous match, being 5-2 down in the final set to win. I think she is quite strong mentally Sabalenka and Swiatek are multiple time GS champs and fighters. You will lose your share of matches against elite players like them. Btw she has a winning record and Swiatek and closing the gap with Sabalenka who used to be a bad matchup for her. People underestimate what Fed did against Djoko and Nadal. He was 6 years older ended up having nearly 40 wins against both of them. He won 6 out his last 7 matches against Nadal. Was 1 shot away from beating Djoko in the wimbledon final at a ripe old age of 38. I guess you have a more pessimistic view / glass being half empty POV. Both Nadal and Djoko are GOATs. I would say, if anything, there is no shame losing to those players, whilst having your own share of wins. Most courts are medium / medium slow, with only a couple being medium fast on tour. A slightly faster court, I would say a 38 year old Fed would have possibly had even more wins.

It's crazy how Aryna went from being one of the most hated player on the WTA tour and by spectators because of her grunt and her strong determination, to being one of the most beloved after all these years. She stayed true to herself and improved her mental strength and game plan, proving she's a big fighter who actually gets along with pretty much anyone on tour. I really command her for all that. Elena on the other hand, has always been the silent fighter. She always appear very stoic but the you can see this flame, this passion within her. She's really calm and collected which really helps her in my opinion. Iga is both of Sabalenka and Rybakina at the same time. She's better when it comes to tactics and game plan, but she sometimes lack in the mental department when she's taking blows after blows in a match. I really do think we have a big 3 here. And it's magnificient.

I hope Aryna will have enough energy for what is looking like a challenging final against Swiatek who had wasted little time dispatching Keys.

Iga is the favorite on clay. She plays with more margins, a ton of top spin. It’ll be a tough match.

despite choking in the second set, Elena managed to refocus (!!!) and fight till the end. Even in the tiebreak, she saved 2 or 3 match points, and did not give up. That is the positive outcome.

These 2 played a high quality match. They are both so powerful and have good movement. Sabalenka defended so well in some of these points. I believe this match is much better than so many classic matches, but because people are hung on nostalgia, they will try to downplay the quality of this match.
@tennisobserver9958 ай бұрын
You're so right. Clinging to nostalgia is probably one of the big reasons why some would insist that players from 20 or 30 years ago are better than today's players, inspite of all the video evidence pointing to the contrary.
@kofipokuantwi-boateng54468 ай бұрын
@tennisobserver995 Some of them are just delusional. Some round 2 and 3 matches from this era are better than most slam finals in the 80s and 90s. The great players back then did their thing. The new ones are also doing theirs. There's so much depth now, it's therefore more difficult to dominate.

Rybakina is well able to win with Swiatek, but often lose to Sabalenka. Sabalenka than often wins with Rybakina, but lose to Swiatek. Now guess who is going to win the tournament 😂

How do you pretend to gain more attraction to these incredible matches/rivalries if you keep up with the 720p?

Hmmm those who bet on Rybakina spent their money 💰 at 6-1,5-4... phew

Aryna won only 12 points for the entire 1st set. That's how lopsided it was. But Rybakina's level dropped after breaking and consolidating in the 2nd set, and although she won 4 more points, Aryna won the 3 most important points at the end of the 2nd set and 3rd set tiebreak. This rivalry really delivers in terms of excitement and suspense.
