The cories were fabulous! Elephant noses take a while to get adjusted to their tank, but given something big and round to hide in, they will be out and about foraging for food - especially worms of any type. The one I had in my Seattle days used to fight off the clown loaches for worms by giving them a little shock therapy.

Hey Bob. A friend in my fish club had elephant nose and the way he got them to stay out was to dim the lighting of the tank by using more floating plants. It worked well. They seem to hate bright lighting

My experience is if you want to see the Elephant Nose fish, you either don't have objects or decorations you can see through. In this case, a clear tube or less hiding places would be ideal. Do you still have the fish? Did you get more? These are one of my favorites.

You should have bought two of them since they are said to be able to talk to each other and are extremely intelligent. That way that fish you have would have a friend to talk to!

Once they find a good spot in the tank they will keep any fish from coming near their home. They will be very shy for the couple of weeks until they get used to their new home and their new fish buddies. But after that it will be a fish that will not stop moving around the tank trying to find blood worms. It’s a very odd fish but very fun.

Yo dude, the elephantfish is awesome (have one myself) but it has really specific needs. Gravel hurts their snouts (which they use to see, they are completely blind), tanks with sand are a must. It's also an African species of fish and has a really subtle temper, these guys really shine when they are in a African habitat tank with only African species. I have an African hanitat tank with swordfish, Congo tetras, Reedfish and one Elephant nose fish. Elephants will really come out of their shell when their environment is optimal, not trying to be a smartass but I really feel for your little guy and wanted to let you know!! :)

Hey mike I got an elephant nose from someone and the snout is gone. I have it quarantined and received it two days ago so you think it’s possible for it to grow back?
@MrChocolaaaa
@MrChocolaaaa 2 жыл бұрын
@@ericdomotor2382 Hi Eric, the elephant fish is a member from the family of tapirfish so it could also be that you have a different species (there are ones without the snout). If thats not case, I don't think it will grow back. As far as I know tapirfish don't have the ability to regenerate bodyparts.

Think that Elephant noses might best kept as a group in a 'species tank' with soft sand as they tend to be out competed by other tank mates but will be interesting to see how it does in the community. I do like your Cory Schwartzi though - very nice :)

Do you still have it? They live in water like 20+ feet deep and they come out close to sunset, so if you have lights with a dimming cycle you can actually get them to spend a lot of time out and about. They also live in schools of like 12+ so this is kind of like having one neon tetra that is going to be more reclusive without a bunch of friends.

My tire track eel (5 inches) gave my elephant nose confidence and they grew inseparable. My elephant nose would watch my eel come to the top and eat out of my hand. Not long after the elephant nose would follow the eel half way up, building up his nerve then chicken out and go back down. Unfortunately I lost the elephant nose before he trusted me enough to come all the way to the top to eat out of my hand. Anyways point of the story, they are very shy fish. Mine didn't hide a lot but was always w the eel. I didn't have a lot of other fast moving fish in the tank either. Try an eel if he/she is still hiding in a week. Just an idea.
