Elephanta Caves (UNESCO/NHK)

The 'City of Caves', on an island in the Sea of Oman close to Bombay, contains a collection of rock art linked to the cult of Shiva. Here, Indian art has found one of its most perfect expressions, particularly the huge high reliefs in the main cave.

Visited a few days ago. It's mesmerising. Main caves has depiction of Shiva in many forms: Ardhnareshwar, Gangadhara Shiva, Mahayogi, Natraj, Shivling among a few. The central Mahesh murti- the Great Lord is mesmerising and draws you in. No picture can do it justice.

@@Texasmade74 LoL Shaivism came after 12th century with Madhavacharya, the only people who build caves and lenis in India are Buddhists. Brahmins dont have any skills and by their own admission their forefathers have no skill, you think their forefathers could carve stones? The only people in India who could carve stones were buddhists. All Shilpkala in India both Gandhara and Mathura shilp is buddhist. This particular one is Avalokiteshwara Buddha. You will find the same idols and paintings in Ajanta caves. The brahmins claim anything as their own because they have no history.

Similar to both Greek and roman ideologies.. but Intresting how the caves are the homes of the gods and not in the after life Olympus like roman ideologies. I love the representation of shiva . Showing the balance of yin and yang the face on the left is rage and on the right creation buy the middle is the balance

This is not Shiva, this is Avalokiteshwara buddha. There is no religion called HIndu. Brahmins dont know how to carve stones they simply lack skills to make this cave. All shilpkala is buddhist in India, you should do proper research before making videos.
