Someone in the grocery store stopped me a few weeks ago, to read the back of my t-shirt again, to get it right. She had looked at it in passing, seeing 65 years old and birthday on it, figuring it was about me . . . BUT it was a Shirley birthday t-shirt! and not about me! It gave me the opportunity to tell her about Shirley AND The Elephant Sanctuary!

Tarra (aka The Butterball) apparently has no shame in trying to help herself to some of Shirley's food!! LOL!! As much as I love Tarra, I'm glad that Shirley finally said "enough - this is my food"!

That is so cute. That Tara is sure full of life. Glad Shirley finally stopped Tara. You can tell just by looking at Tara that she never misses a meal, she has a shape like a beach ball. All the interactions between the girls is so interesting. The music is perfect. Thanks for another video that made me smile.

Wish my own family was this patience during feeding time. ;) One of my favorite things about elephants is that they respect their elders. Shirley is a great old dame and Tarra is right to show her respect.

Very amusing. Love these two, and all of your elephants. The music is perfect! I read below that Soloman keeps in touch. I am not surprised. I have cried many times watching him cry saying see-you-later to Shirley. His happiness for her was overwhelming.

That tidbit of info brought tears to my eyes when I read it in your newsletter. I've always hoped that Soloman stayed in touch somehow, if only via tuning in to videos of his girl! Thank you all.

Before she came to The Sanctuary, more than 15 years ago, Shirley had an altercation with another elephant that led to a broken hind leg that was never properly set. Still, she's the most widely travelled elephant living at The Sanctuary! Her leg causes her no pain.
