It's because he likes to play very straight beats that lend themselves to his ridiculously fast and tight straight fills. This is the evident overlap between metal and that era of new wave pop. Jazz/funk/regae etc don't lend themselves to this style of drumming.

@@cheryl9180 Could always go makeshift. That’s how I’ve had to go for the last 2 years (I have no room). I have a practice pad, a kick pad with pedal and some sticks (can even find them all for under $100 if you look around) and I’m able to get about 80% of my normal practice in (practice control, speed, rudiments, dynamics, etc with both hands and feet) and the only thing I’m unable to practice is moving between drums. It’s real quiet compared to drums and takes almost no space…could be a great way to get into the drums until you have the opportunity to move up to an actual kit ✌️🙂
