Hi DieselDucy, Just watched your 8 year vid on KZbin. I think that you are probably my favourite KZbinr ever! You have inspired me to ride elevators and to become an all - round good person. Thankyou soooooooooooo much!

A stone building like this was only built THIS YEAR (unless this was an existing building that was restored)? I'm impressed that some people still show some appreciation for older styled architecture on the outside, with the modern on the inside.

It's Tech's architectural style. Almost all of the buildings here are made with this "Hokie Stone," which is mined locally.
@NewEnglandElevators10 жыл бұрын
thewildeeper I took a look on VT's site at some of the other buildings on the campus, and noticed, like you said, almost all the buildings are constructed with the "Hokie Stone" and constructed in a similar design. I must say, it is pretty neat that they use nearby resources for the stone, and use an older style of architecture for the buildings, even the the newer ones. Too bad not many people choose to build in this style. I do appreciate the newer "blocky" buildings, it's refreshing to see an older style in use here.

Finally! Cheers for 2:53; I now know what those buttons on the new elevators at SEPTA do. Interesting that the beeper button is only on one side. Do love that the hall lanterns show direction of travel, but I can see that as being slightly confusing on floors with both directions of travel are possible (Mitsubish blink I think would fix that though.)

The "funny things on the windows" are light shelves, designed to direct natural light into the building.

My sisters old dorm hall at her college had these inovation security buttons on a hydraulic unit and my theory was the elevator used to be an otis or a westinghouse because it had the emergancy dropkey compartment on the ground floor and it had a mesh or some really cool heavy duty steelwork on the innerdoors and the actual cab had the same thing but even though it was modernised it still has alot of character to it.

What brand are the elevators? Does the elevator records say what they are? The climes sounds like Montgomery or KONE

Jeff goes to school here. And I think colleges are pretty relaxed on security too because they can't determine if you are a student or not.

It is at a public school as well and they have an open campus policy.

Amy looks like a reporter. what those funny window things? innovation fixtures are nice. the UMass ILC does that, a pair of elevators then a solo elevator elsewhere. newer style freighters look cleaner. parking the freighter in the lobby reduces wait time.

Very nice elevators, and they sure run really well for modern elevators. Also, it sure is interesting that they built this building in a historic aesthetic appeal, and is Amy a friend of Jeff, or is she his new girlfriend?
