The term “elevate” to me, is synonymous with the ability of some famous basketball players to transcend the laws of gravity and physics by being able to play above the rim despite their own size limitations. Good examples of these would be David Thompson and Spud Webb. Thompson was a championship leader at forward despite being only 6’4”. He could elevate over other players much taller than him. Spud at 5’7” was one the shortest players in basketball history yet could dunk and even won the NBA dunk contest one year. In their own way, Julius Erving and George Gervin could elevate above their opponents and dominate their games. In the same way, an underdog team can overcome an established opponent by “elevating” their game, which is what Fresno State was able to achieve in the last couple of minutes against San Diego State last year. The term “elevate” is appropriate when referring to the campaign to upgrade the Fresno State sports programs. One big difference this time around, the concepts being generated around the Elevate campaign are aimed at being sustainable for the long term future and the well being of Fresno State and the Fresno and valley communities. Never before has there been a Fresno effort of this magnitude. We should be proud but not cocky as it’s a big responsibility, but it’s a good one. A few wrong attitudes could generate some backlash which could do significant damage to our efforts but that’s a test of being successful. I believe Fresno State is ready. This investment is solid. I look forward to the future. Go Dogs!

They need Measure E in 2024 to pass for this renovation to be realized. Measure E is local proposition which will raise the sales tax in Fresno County to help make improvements for the university.
