Nice talk, floating point arithmetic has such a wealth of techniques to master. The gold standard for "double-double" arithmetic (and "quad-double") is David H. Bailey's library "qd". There was an effort (a google summer of code project I believe) to bring a double-double type into Boost math, but it has not yet been merged I think, would be wonderful to have this in boost though.
