Elevator Action is the first arcade I ever saw. It was at a grocery store with my mom and I was five years old. We were at the checkout lane and there it was sitting against the wall. I was so enthralled with the look of the game and music that I tried to draw out the game on paper in school the next day. Then I pretended to play elevator action on a piece of paper on my school desk.

Now that's GenX ingenuity! Do you remember when you first got to play the cabinet for real? Did it measure up to your pen-and-paper simulation?

GenXGrownUp I didn’t play that cabinet for real until much later as an adult. I was too scared to play any arcade at the time. That same year I saw and was amazed by wwf superstars for the arcade. I always remember the million dollar man talking and couldn’t believe it. Then my family and I took a trip to the arcade at the mall just to see the dragons lair arcade. One guy was playing as a crowd of people watched. The only thing I remember from that experience was him drinking the potion that said drink me or whatever it said. I’m getting the replicade whenever it releases from new wave toys.

Love this game! Used to play Elevator Action at the Malibu Grand Prix in Fountain Valley.

They made Elevator Action 2 in 1995 that game has a story line and an ending. The original game looped over and over again, like most arcade games at the time.

Yep. Called Elevator Action Returns in some regions. It had much more depth (multiple characters, power-ups, health, etc.) but I always felt it lacked the charm & simplicity of the original.

Roosevelt Field's Timeout arcade had this and it was always a favorite of mine. The game would last long! Fun times. 😄😄😄

Agree 100%, MagCynic. Every time I get shot or crushed I could see how it was my mistake and not some cheap AI. I love skill-based games that don't cheap you out with random whoopsies!

Jon, if you want a tabletop title that is really solid (except for some screen tearing in between stages) in the same vein as Mappy, I highly recommend the My Arcade Bubble Bobble unit. Like Mappy, that is one NES port which is very faithful to the arcade which helps a lot and it’s a really nice unit as well, of course. I had to order mine from Amazon last year though as none of my local Walmarts had it. I also wholeheartedly agree again that the Space Invaders MA unit has changed the game and My Arcade using NES roms now just feels cheap. It will be interesting to see how their upcoming “premium” Contra unit is handled. I saw a preview pic for that somewhere and looked like it has a vertical/TATE screen so hopefully arcade. Edit: Oops, I see someone below already mentioned Bubble Bobble, my bad. :p

Great looking cab, but not sure if I would want to get it for just that reason alone. I fear the stiffness of the joystick (a problem with most if not all of these My arcade games) would make for difficult gameplay on that small of a unit.

Kind of annoying that it's a NES port and not the arcade. They should rethink their name if they are not actually arcade versions.

From what I can tell from the upcoming the 40th anniversary Pac-Man release, it looks like My Arcade is ditching the Nes rom, and using a modified version on the arcade rom. That said because they’re still using the same screen aspect ration, they’ve altered it put the score and stats information on the sides!

I point out to these young people that making generalizations about 65. 2 million people is no better than a “ Karen “ making a racist remark. I’ve seen this comment about gen X by gen Z multiple times now on social media. Do they not realize they are biting the hands that feed them? Most gen X have gen Z children.

I like the design and features of the MyArcade players but the controls usually are inferior to Basic Fun's. Also, Walmart always have the same arcade titles. I never see passed the 3 games they ALWAYS carry for MyArcade.

New releases have been pretty dead during the pandemic, but it seems like the new units have started trickling out, so I'd keep an eye on your Walmart's shelves.

I'd be so worried with how that would be screwed up. With no spinner how could the levels be done justice? Spinning my tank turret? Shooting spiders around the MCP cone? There's a reason Tron was never ported to any PCs or consoles, and the same reason probably holds for why it shouldn't come to these units...UNLESS it's the new premium line and it's got a pistol grip and spinner. Then I'd be all-in.

@@GenXGrownUp someone made a modified one with an old coleco and. Raspberry Pi. Its on KZbin. They just added buttons to the side and it appears like a nice tradeoff to the spinner

Just like no Atari 2600 Space Invaders on AtGame's Atari Flashback, it's what the game owner wants, Taito in this case, not anything My Arcade or we want unfortunately!

Lesser hardware should not be an excuse. A 2020s computer the size of a dime, and as cheap as one, can have better hardware than a 1982 arcade cabinet.

I'm glad I didn't purchase this one. Lol. I ended up getting Contra my arcade and have mixed feelings about it. Let's just say you run out of continues on Contra on my arcade:(
