@@JBrooksNYS yea. When it was released I remember a lot of people/critics were being overly harsh on it. I think the country was in a completely different mindset back in 2002. But now you see this movie being talked about by many random people saying it's one of their favorite movies. Probably has something to do with Cruise's resurgence as of late.

I didn't see this film until it'd been out for years. I was with a couple of my mates and we were talking about good films we'd seen. One of them mentioned Vanilla Sky, and the other one immediately agreed. I asked about the film and they both slowly turned to me and were shocked I'd never seen it. Later that day my mates both came round to mine with a copy of the film, so we watched it. Wow, I was completely absorbed into the film. It's one of the best viewing experiences I've ever had. The raw pain of a love lost, a love you come so close to having but then losing is captured perfectly in this film. The ending is such a heartwrencher. I'm a bloke so I didn't cry... but apparently me eyes were "very watery" during the whole elevator and roof end scene. Hands down one of the best surprises my mates have ever done for me, bringing round a copy of Vanilla Sky so I can watch it for the first time. Thanks guys!
@nathaniellowry38613 жыл бұрын
Mate!!! Hands down, the effect it had on me are still being felt 20 years later! Absolutely magnificent film. My favourite. Ive honestly seen it about 70 times or so... Tear jerker. Fascinating how crowe captured this in a single movie. Pure masterpiece.
@winningjubbly97123 жыл бұрын
@@nathaniellowry3861 Ah, so I'm not the only one who was affected by this masterpiece? Tom Cruise is an underrated actor, I think. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Vanilla Sky was one of those films that absolutely dripped with a 'feeling'. Very atmospheric, and the payoff at the end is spectacular, though bittersweet. There are a few other films that also have "a feeling" to them. Lost in Translation is another great film, though, of course, it doesn't quite compare with Vanilla Sky. There's a Tom Hanks film that also has "a feeling" to it. It's the one where he lives in an airport terminal. I think it's called Terminal 'something'. That's also worth checking out. Do you have any other recommendations for films that have a 'feeling' to them? Thanks for the reply, Nathaniel! ☺

Ever since I first watched I was very attached to it. So much I immediately played it back from the beginning. That’s how you know something hits you deep down. My astrology and life experiences have mirrored David Aames and the symbolism of “wanting to wake up”. I’m sure many people that cherish this story feel the same way. It was actually really sad to think that pseudo-date with Sofia ended up being last she ever saw him. She probably gave him a chance to see if they could recreate the chemistry they once had, but his changed personality and yes, his looks, proved too difficult a hurdle to overcome. Noone can really blame her since however much magic they have between them, they had only met each other twice and their relationship was essentially cut short by horrific events.
