There are some Eleven Labs prompts that you can use, such as whispering, yelling, screaming, or shouting. Aside from that, you can add pauses so that your text to speech sounds better overall. Nevertheless, this quick video will go over some of the ways to change your speech up. Keep in mind that you will need to mess around with it a little, because it can sound different simply by changing voices.

For yelling I've found that this works well for me with nearly any voice: *He shouted at the top of his lungs, "WHATEVER YOU WANT TO YELL!"* If it's too intense, you can change the text to lower case. And if it's not intense enough, you can change *shouted* to something like *shouted angrily* to get there. (Change *angrily* to a word describing whatever tone you're going for.) Of course it uses more quota, but considering it can potentially save on doing retakes I think it's worth being more wordy when emotion counts. Similarly, being more descriptive can help with whispering. Variations of this work nicely in my experience: *Quiet as a church mouse he whispered, "whatever you want whispered..."*

For pauses i just use and change the seconds. works perfectly and you get the pauses you want every time with you adjustments, just save it in a doc, and copy and paste where i need it

I was doing some testing and this has worked for me, to make long pauses. Here are my examples: "So. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - well. - - - - I think I'll sit this one out!" "Well. - - - - - - - - - - - - I think you may be right." Typing about 10 dashes with spaces. Hope this helps! 🙂

The exclamation points do more for yelling than the parentheses do, that’s also why your whisper was still a little loud cause it had an exclamation point at the end! Also it’s why your yelling one wasn’t very loud cause you had a question mark at the end Instead of an exclamation point!!! Give it a try 😊

Hello everyone. I am Italian and I would like to create a multi-voice audiobook of one of my short stories, extracted from a novel I have already published. I want to do it for fun, not for commercial purposes. Eleven Labs is a really interesting tool; however, what could make a difference would be the inclusion of prompts to give the voices the right intonations. at this point (24/04/12) elevenlabs is pretty much unusable for anything north of 1000+ words. absolute zero consistency, can't save versions and little to no influence on the voice's tonality. yet a steep pricing model. especially when you have texts with complex or professional terms let alone other languages. it's nice but still beta.

Instead of forcing us to muck around experimenting with random dashes, punctuation marks, and such… why doesn’t elevate labs just make a simple _”add a ‘X’ second pause”_ tool? 🤦‍♀️ It seems pretty obvious and straightforward to me.

These absolutely do not work. You can adjust the voice settings for better tones.
