Looking back at this film, I forgot how much of a good stepmother Emily was. She doesn’t get angry at Walter for having a secret (and unplanned) child from a previous relationship. She shows no hostility to Buddy, doesn’t disparage him for his “elf culture” and welcomes him with open arms.
