I absolutely ADORE Ella's voice...I had the blessing of performing one of her renditions of thie very song on tour with the Spelman College Glee club last summer..and though I was coined "lil Ella" everytime I hear her sing...especially in her later years I am reminded that I am NOWHERE near deservant of such a name..and it makes me smile!!!! She is the BEST!

If you listen to Ella really good, she sounds as if she's playing a horn. That's the essence of scatting, it emphasizes great rhythmic timing also. Numerous singers directly and indirectly are influenced by this singing. Especially "soul singing" genres.
