Eli Cohen: Mossad Agent 88 | Al Jazeera World Documentary

In one of the most audacious individual espionage operations ever, Eli Cohen, an Egyptian-born Jewish accounting clerk, was recruited by Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, trained intensively as a field agent for six months and given a new identity as an Arab businessman in South America.
In 1962, he was deployed as a spy to Damascus where he successfully ingratiated himself in the higher echelons of Syrian society.
He fed intelligence to Mossad for three years and is credited by some for enabling the Israeli military to take the Golan Heights in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
Cohen was eventually found out, however, and publicly executed in 1965.
In this documentary, a Syrian politician and writer discusses the events that led to the arrest, trial and death sentence of Mossad Agent 88.

I don't follow any side, nor do I agree with any war, but certainly Eli Cohen was a very intelligent and brave man. I hope his family is at peace. I became aware of him due the Netflix film, this documentary takes away some of the poetry, but also shows Eli Cohen as being equally vulnerable as all humans. Thank you for this documentary.

I think the Syrians actually wanted to return the body, but it was never found or they are still trying to find it because they moved his body/coffin from place to place so much that they forgot where it was. It was not really so bad explaineing everything . Just a little poor not showing as it was said here,the real importance and amount of information he got , that as far as I know was really important . I thought that he was caught using some devices at the same time , in the streets of Damasco, intersecting the signals that were coming in the air and finally locating the place. He was heavily tortured and he didn't gave them any code that they could have been having used. So he behaved like a real hero.

I read a book about Eli Cohen life. He got a photographic memory, at a very young age, if he saw a car. He can remember the time, date, place where he sees this car. If I'm not mistaken he got married by the age of 17. When mossad knows he's talent. They recruit Cohen to work with them. But he refuse it. So he look for a job and he couldn't find it. The mossad is always in he's back to push him to work with them. Eventually he work in mossad. By the time he was captured he is close the military top echelons, in fact he visited Golan heights Syrian military installation. That's how Israel won the 6 days war.

As an Israeli i can tell you that, yes this is true that the Mossad is very sofiticated. however don't forget that it very easy to spy after failure country as Syria. Over the past 70 years Syria didn't anhance its military power in western standards, as well as didn't create a united powerful people in terms of nationalism. It was always typical middle Eastern mafia country like Lebanon itr Jordan. But the funny thing is that there is no Syria anymore, just demolished buildings and deaths everywhere.
