A tribute to Hannah Senesh - to her heroism, and to her heart which produced a poetic legacy.
In March 1944, as a newly recruited elite SOE agent, Hannah embarked on a mission to enter Nazi-occupied Hungary and rescue Jews on their way to the notorious death camp at Auschwitz. She never made it past the Hungarian border. Captured, imprisoned, and tortured by the Nazis, she stubbornly refused to divulge any information. She stood before the firing squad in November, 1944, refusing to wear a blindfold. She was just twenty-three years old.
Hannah left behind a mother and brother who devoted the rest of their lives to keeping her memory alive. Thanks to the publication of her poems, Hannah has become a beloved hero in Israel and a voice for Jewish people everywhere.

Eli Eli
"My God, My God
May these never end
The sand and the sea
The rustle of the waters
The lightning of the heavens
The prayer of man."
