Interesting how I had never heard of Eli Somer before last year and now I feel he's the only person in the world I could open my heart to.

I don't think it's hereditary. Because I haven't seen this in my father and mother or even in my grandparents at all but I have it.
@elisomer3 жыл бұрын
Hair or eye color are hereditary even if neither parent have similar features. MD is probably an innate trait. Whether is inherited, we don't know.

You have no idea what these means to me! I’ve always felt so alone, like i’m the only person in this world that spends most of its time thinking and thinking about complex situations that are never gonna happen. Sometimes i feel like i’m never gonna be normal, that i’m never gonna meet the right person because the only right person lives in my mind… and now i know this thing has a name and that there are more people like me… just thank you!!

I had anxiety for sure. I have been in stressful circumstances. I believe that could be the reason .

Hello, Dr. Somer! I left a comment on one of you videos sometime ago about being willing to participate in any clinical trials or research you maybe conducting in the future. I apologize for the late reply. Is there anyway to contact you through your website, perhaps? I'd like to contribute some of my stories and habits as a maladaptive daydreamer. If this is at all possible, please let me know. Thank you!

Sir I wanna tell that since I'm a maladaptive daydreamer from childhood, I can tell a difference between the maladaptive daydreamer and normal fantasizing kid. Sir, first there is difference between your imagination and maladaptive daydreaming. If you imagine something like suppose if you want to propose a girl , now if you do imagination by yourself it's not vivid and it's in control. But if it's maladaptive daydreaming, you won't be able to imagine or think something for so long, it's uncontrollability , it's like you're not imagining, it's brain is doing something for you by taking your energy. It's not like a imagination where you're scriptwriter, it's a play where brain is scipteriter, brain is director and you're enslaved actor and a person who watches movie. Difference between normal imagination and maladaptive daydreaming is not in age, it's in it's uncontrollability.

Exactly bro, I find it too late when I’ve spent hours daydreaming. It’s literally uncontrollable.

I find it very difficult to think that a person was born like this, in my experience of a mother where a child has this, I never saw anyone like that in my family, he was very alone as a child he had a school friend where they both talked too much in class, he lost his father, he had to change his life move all the time , so when he was twelve I realized something was wrong with him. He is very intelligent but now he does not give priority a life only dream.

What about serial killers? Do they also suffer from maladaptive daydreaming? Fantasies play a major role in their lives and ultimately lead them to murder.

@@Kat-wo7ix As a result of stopping the MD? Not that I am aware of. Still, MD often works as a coping mechanism, so it is unwise to just remove it without addressing underlying issues, to the extent that such exist.

See, I'm a maladaptive daydreamer from my early childhood. And I can tell you that it's very less likely that someone with maladaptive daydreaming can do this. It's because you feel like doing something in daydreams so much that you lose too much amount of energy. You can't even fight with kid.
