ONE OF THE GREATEST AMERICAN FILMS OF THE 50's. Superb, masterful direction by Don Siegel and all around superb acting by the whole cast. The guy who plays "the Man" Vaughn Taylor, he was Janet Leigh's boss in Psycho, hardly says a word but he is terrifying. Hal Mohr's cinematography is terrific. This was only Wallach's second film and he did not want to play a villain. He had to be convinced with a few weeks in beautiful SF and a big paycheck.. The scene in the skating rink should be in a noir textbook, it is so perfect. One of my 8 all time favorite noirs and A MUST SEE!!

Those scenes on the unfinished roadways were just too much. No way they could be done now. I stumbled over this film a few years ago. One of my all time faves. Serious top 10 any genre. and thanks again, Don.

Great film starts out slow the pace really picked when Eli entered the film.Great location shots of San Francisco, excellent chase scenes and the pan shot of San Francisco was a fantastic way to end such a work of cinema art.

The Lineup was actually a long running CBS radio and TV series first. It was CBS's answer to NBC's Dragnet. The TV series was later syndicated as "San Francisco Beat", which is how I first saw it as a kid in the 60's. It had one of the best opening credits in TV, with the detective's police car go up Russian Hill with a Hyde Street Cable Car and Alcatraz in the background.
