I was thinking about your greenstalks and the greenhouse in the wind! We have a shady side of the garden so was thinking of some variegated hostas. Also, want to grow forget me knots under the hedges for some ground cover. We normally have rosemary with lamb or harvest it to dry. I make organza bags with lavender and rosemary for in the wardrobes to keep the moths out. Was watching Garden Answer and Lauren made a tincture with apple cider vinegar and rosemary. Apparently, its meant to be good for us ladies. I made it and had a bit. Just tasted like rosemary vinegar to me. Not sure often you have to take it but I haven't turned into Cindy Crawford, that's for sure! Haha Excited to see what goes in your bed this year! Take care and have a great week!

Spring bulbs in January is wild to me. lol. I live in Ontario Canada where we have snow until April, with the occasional storm in May. We are having a heat spell right now going up to -10, after having -25 to -30 for a while.

😁 so my garden is in the central belt of Scotland. Probably the mildest part of the country. We rarely see snow in my town, and the coldest days of winter are usually around minus 5 or 6 C - I have seen a lot colder but that’s the exception rather than the rule. Generally though, the temperature hovers around between minus 2 - 4C as a more normal temperature. This year has been crazy warm though, been in the positives an awful lot.

Hi Both. Good to see how the garden is progressing. Just to say I’m in midlands in England and I don’t think it’s been a crazy mild winter. I think it’s been freezing. We’ve had two proper dumplings of snow and fairly long periods of below zero weather.

The zero is normal for us, our usual temps are nearer minus 5 or 6 but we rarely get snow. This year however, although we have had some days down at those temp, it’s not been for as long or as regularly as usual.

Beautiful garden! May i suggest Echium and Alyssum? Beautiful flowers. I sowed my Alyssum in march last year and it's still flowering to this day (bit less of course but it seems to not care much about the frost we had). Alyssum is great for hanging baskets and letting them hang over your planters. Wonderful scent and they attract beneficial insects as well. Win win. *edit: I have the Alyssum royal carpet.

Cultivating a fine crop of canes and string! I always say that composted beds must be the cat equivalent of super-luxury 4-layer super soft toilet paper. Mmmm Hmmm. Comfy on the bum! We don't have ANY squirrels here, they would be the red ones only (way too many hungry farm cats?). But there are racoons in the village...I hope they don't get as far as here! My big pest, especially over this winter, is moles!. My cat Felix, got 4 last year, but this mild ish wet winter weather means the moles can keep digging, but the cat isn't so keen on lying on the ground with his paw down a hole up to his oxter... Waiting impatiently for my bulbs to come up. The lesser celandine is out this week under the cherry tree, I guess the magnolia and Forsythia will start up next. Waiting a couple of weeks before sowing seeds - I jumped the gun last year with my peppers and it didn't go well, had to resow.
