가수 에릭남이 4번째 미니앨범 ‘The Other Side’로 돌아왔다. 작년 11월 영어 앨범 ‘Before We Begin’ 발표 후 8개월 만의 컴백이다.
앨범명 ‘The Other Side’는 말 그대로 또 다른 모습, 이면을 뜻한다. 겉으로 보기에는 행복하고 완벽해 보이는 누군가의 일상에도 이면은 있을 것이고, 힘들기만 한 나의 지금에도 분명히 행복이라는 이면이 있을 수 있다. 그 이면들이, 그것 자체로 희망이 되길 바라는 마음을 담아냈다.
타이틀곡 ‘Paradise’는 길어지는 전염병과 더운 여름으로 지친 이들이 공감할 수 있는 곡이다. 시원하면서도 무게감 있는 기타 리프와 신디사이저가 매력적인 곡으로, 답답한 현실에서 벗어나고 싶은 자유와 희망을 갈망하는 마음을 담았다. 뮤직비디오에서 에릭남은 ‘일반인 에릭남’, ‘셀럽 에릭남’, ‘직장인 에릭남’ 등 다양한 모습을 연기하면서 누군가는 부러워하는 일상이 사실 완벽하지 않을 수 있고, 나의 평범한 일상도 누군가에게는 부러운 이상, 즉 ‘Paradise’일 수 있다는 ‘The Other Side’ 앨범의 주제의식을 담아 냈다.
그 외에도 지금 막 시작한 연인에게 보내는 로맨틱한 러브레터 같은 ‘Trouble With You’, 잔잔한 피아노 라인에 에릭남의 감성적인 보컬이 얹혀 완성된 ‘잘 지내지 (How You Been)’, 만날수록 사랑이 깊어진다는 내용의 ‘Down For You’, 지난 영어 앨범 선공개곡을 한국어로 번안한 Love Die Young (Korean Ver.)이 수록되어 있다.
