Eliminating the COLA for Social Security, SSDI, SSI, VA
In this video, we are specifically talking about the cost of living adjustment otherwise known as COLA which is a benefit increase applied to benefit check for roughly 70,000,000 beneficiaries each year and announced by the Social Security administration in the fourth quarter of the year. The cost-of-living adjustment is something that is essentially important for fixed income beneficiaries who rely on fixed income benefits to keep benefit checks at parody with inflation. However, as we've heard recently, there are many different plans and proposals to reform Social Security, change Social Security and adjust Social Security checks, with this being said, there's discussion of completely eliminating the cost-of-living adjustment or removing the annual COLA from Social Security. We are discussing the details here in this video and what it means to your monthly benefit going forward.

So funny how the government can say SS is going to run out, but they always seem to have money for others that are in need in different countries. What about us?? I get wrecked by our government and it cost me my medical insurance which pays my $37,954.30 of annual medication. Which is much more than I receive and depend on to live from my SSDI We should get a huge increase every year just because everything gets more and more expensive each year! Or maybe get rid of forcing indigent legal American citizens having to pay for their heating bills and electric bills or maybe have them pay only 15% of the ACTUAL USED SERVICE, not estimated! If someone is on SSDI they should be given huge discounts. Their life already sucks.

Hi Matt, here's my opinion. I think they should get rid of the cola. Give Social Security recipients a 200.00 raise immediately and every year after a 5% raise. I think that would be fair. As far as the retirement age I think they should have it at 65 yrs of age. We shouldn't have to work 50 or 60 yrs. At 65 we've already worked 47 or so yrs. I started working at the age of 12. I didn't have to but I wanted to. I worked in tabacco fields and watermelon fields. My point is until I was 16 I didn't pay taxes. So by the time I was 40 I had worked 25 years. I broke my back and now I receive SSDI. I am now 60 years young. So this is an example of the working class. We need a 200.00 raise and a decent percentage of a raise every year after. The Social Security trust fund is collecting interest and make the wealthy pay their fair share. I believe that would save the trust fund from becoming insolvent. If the government would keep their hands out of it we would be ok. They think people pay taxes for them to take what they want when they want it. Our government is our worst enemy right now. Hopefully this will change on Nov. 5th. Vote Trump ppl. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

There have been some years without a COLA. But whenever that happened, Medicare wasn't increased, thanks to the Hold Harmless Provision. With increasing medical costs, how would that Provision stand with permanent COLA increases eliminated permanently?

The cola should be adjusted through the whole year, not just 3 months because it could be high during the beginning of the year and in those 3 months they somehow lower the inflation just a little bit to where they barely give you anything
