i never even reached that point in the game on my alpha playthroughs, so i'm not able to answer you here, maybe in 50 more parts :D but i believe someelse might know a bit or there might be some reviews of Elin on KZbin. The people of the developers discord are very active, so this might be also a good place to ask or look for.

In the original one I believe there is some sort of main quest, but you can fuck around almost infinitely. You can even kill god, and then the god inside god of course.

i'm not that familiar with the game so far, so i dunno if you can buy houses in the villages or somewhere else and only played the early alphas, but you can just create your own base on your own land (and you can own more than just one land for shops, a farm, etc).
