While waiting for the parts I need to fix the bugs after the first start, we decided replace the shocks with adjustable ones and drop the body on the chassis. This will give us un idea of the car stance and we can decide how to deal with the rear suspension

Hi Elin, Firstly the 1/2" rear lowering block will give you 1" difference at the rear wheel arch. Don't forget that when you add the glass, put gas in the tank, add lighting and exhaust, etc. there is probably another 300 lbs plus to go in the car. The drivers front side was always designed to be higher than the passenger side. You need to let your suspension settle, they recommend the 'A' arms front and back be slack and that the car be rolled back and forth a few times before you do up the bolts.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 13 күн бұрын
I know, I am keeping that in consideration. The fine tuning will be done when she is on the road and being driven for a while. But you have to know that she is full of parts inside right now, including two extra seats from another car so the weight is not too far from the truth and also the control arm bolts are all lose. Nothing has been tightened yet.

Well that is great that you have not overlooked anything, as an observer to your video that is not necessarily clear to one. But I do enjoy watching you do your work, because it shows the real world problems that crop up and you don't gloss over the issues like some of the TV shows. Thank you keep up the great work.@@RustyBeauties

As many have already said, it is great to see your very own GT6 coming back together. That problem with not being able to reach the bolt was mystifying, but in the end not really that surprising. Worn out, oval bolt holes are pretty common in all types of vehicles. Thanks for letting us watch, Ellin, and David, thanks for the help. Oh, and Halgrim said to say hello.

Very glad you managed to get that banjo bolt out! Useful for me to see that there is indeed enough clearance to use the chassis shock mount points with a CV conversion fitted. I’m deleting my body shock mounts as the RH one was too rotten to bother fixing, and had wondered if the chassis mounts could be used without adaptors. Also interesting to spot that your Mk3 seat belt mount point is part of the shock reinforcing plate, it’s separate and further forward on my Mk2.

Once you go to CVs you can go back to the Mk1 GT6 chassis mount shocks. They went with the bodymount version on Mk2s to clear the rotoflex donuts.

Elin, loosen control arm bolt top and bottom prelude the suspension with your floor jack. And tighten all control arm bolt put the car on the ground it should be very close to a reasonable ride height I had this problem with my first miata

Really enjoyed your video, my gt6 day is Friday though. I have my body off too, to fit a TR6 J type gear box. Going back on this Tuesday, or Thursday? You did a great job getting that banjo bolt out! Just a thought, I have modified my hose arrangement, I bypass the heated in let manifold, as I only use the car in the summer, it’s not needed and it improves performance with a cold inlet. I used a TR6 takeoff on the head, through the heater core and back down to the standard return. Great having David helping, particularly on the suspension side.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 13 күн бұрын
With the down draft webbers on the 1970 TR6 last summer I had issues with condensation inside the manifold when it was not heated. Even on a hot day with a fully warmed engine the manifold was cold to touch and when I took the carbs off the manifold was full of water. So I think heating the manifold is critical.

I would not use that spring top plate with the ovalled hole, that washer wont last very long. Instead, find a replacement spring top plate.

Don't worry about the hight, it will come down some when it's driven, everything will settle, so wait and see, it might end up being too low.

Absolutely. This was just a preliminary check, which I don't expect to be super accurate, but it gives me an idea whether to use a lowering block or not. But you have to know that the body is actually full of parts right now including a set of seats from another car plus its own seats. So it is not too far from where it is going to be at the end. The bolts of the suspension are loose too, nothing is tight yet. Of course the final adjustment in the front will be done when the car is on the road, but unfortunately for the rear I will have to guestimate now, before the body is permanently on the chassis.

You Ned to weigh down the body with the weight of the glass, bumpers, seats, carpets, gas tank with gas, etc., before trying to set the height.

The GT6 is looking so nice already now! Btw, you were welding and heating at the input manifold, while the engine had been running recently. Did you clean and vent everything? It looked rather dangerous to me. I would hate to see a video end with a big bang!
