Just due to the time commitment of running the channel and having to scale down work elsewhere. Patreon and sponsored ads may be the solution. Naturally, my impartiality will be questioned. Hi Tarun Very interesting review thanks, I've always liked the way these large speakers effortlessly push the sound into the room, no strain just a wall of layered sound with height and depth and space. A lot of moons ago I had a pair of 15 inch Dual Concentric Tannoys that stood as tall as my shoulders and listening to Mars off the Planet Suite by Holst would leave you trembling with fear and yet with jazz you were in a small smoke filled club. A lot of todays speakers may be "accurate" but don't come close to giving you the atmosphere of a venue, but I haven't heard them all so I stand to be corrected. Sorry for going on a bit but your review bought back a few memories. Nice one again.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 as a point of reference, I'm actually an older audiophile, in the business in the 70's and 80's. After about a 15 year hiatus I returned and I've been somewhat on a bucket list quest, since 2005. Sometimes new, sometimes vintage. Right now some vintage British and American electronics and modern British stand mounts and American Planars. It all goes in and out with the wind and mood. Living on the West coast (Seattle area) of the US, but being from Texas, and growing up with their kind of sound, I took to the Kaleo that I believe you recommended, right off. At my age, Blues, Blues Rock, folk, Americana, and of course Classic Rock spends a lot of time making time here. Along with jazz, bossa nova, classical and just about every other genre. Even have an old Victrola for the early 20th century 78s that have been given me over the years. Apparently because people figure I'm a record collector. LOL. Well yeah, I guess I am. But I'm totally modern with digital, mostly playing in the Raspberry Pi space, for now. But the reason for this post is to let you know that the Kaleo is great. I will be paying closer attention to your music selections. I get new music from several reviewers. Like Darko's affinity for Electronica. Anyway, keep it up! Really enjoy your channel.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 Sounds good Taron. I’ve been keeping an interest in the medium large floor speakers, but I get on OK with my 1969 Wharfedale W70E’s that my father gifted me after he had them 30 years. I was an Engineer (retired), so I recapped the 3-way crossover for the 15”/5”/1” mylar dome and have been quite happy. The speakers have been well cared for, and have reaped the benefits of a comfy environment, but you never know when time will be up. It’s starting to look like they may outlive the family😆. We usually listen at moderate to low volumes, but have the space and headroom to go loud, but not so young anymore.😉 I like how larger full range speaker systems have a low end that’s felt as well as heard when you turn up a bit. There’s an efficiency tradeoff for the benefits of an acoustic suspension system like mine, but not a problem for me. Thanks for sharing.. 👨🏻Gary.

Having JBL 4311b and Kef Concerto right now as main speakers, I can tell that non mirrored speakers are a nightmare from imaging perspective. You have to fiddle with different toe in angles and wall spacing for one speaker relatively to the other. That beeing said, I would never trade them with very precise thin colums (I had that in the past). It depends on what you can trade off : scale is more important to me than pinpoint imaging. However I really regret JBL and Kef in their time and now Elipson didn’t mirror them, it’s a non sense.

The closest match as to how my speakers sound, is a pair of Klipsch La Scala AL5 loudspeakers, but in my case, the base is stronger. Each speaker has one 15" woofer, two dome mid-range drivers, and four dome tweeters. The two speakers are mirror images of each other. They are 52 cm wide, 82 cm high, and of 41 cm depth, and the panels are of 19 mm MDF, with an internal panel stabilizer. They tend to bring whatever you are listening to, right into your room. I can't recall the exact cost, because I built them myself back in 1978, LOL.

Thanks for this, very interesting and I'm enjoying the channel since I discovered it. Unlike some of your other commentators, I've been rationalising and downsizing my hi-fi for the last few years after over 35 years of over-spending! Ease of use, discoverability, studio masters and my own ill health have led to me consuming my music digitally now for a few years. Finally took the plunge and tried an all in one Naim Unity Atom last week. I thought 'there's no way on earth a little box like that is gonna service my musical needs.' How wrong I was. For me, and my needs, I got everything I need in that one small box, and with the Roon front end, I've never consumed as much music and enjoyed it quite like I am now. Much as I shudder to think of it, I should probably sell the old Roksan Xerxes rosewood turntable I bought 35 years ago, seems a shame to let it sit unused in an attic! The big issue with this is that it doesn't give me much else to lust after other than speakers, so I look at every speaker review as a chance to lust after something and spend some wedge! I really appreciate your channel and you taking the time to consider this stuff, thank you.

Hi Tarun - thanks for another superb review. As an owner of the French-made Jean Marie Reynaud Offrande Supreme v.2 speakers I can be counted among those with a love of speakers made in France. Thanks to your skill at communicating what you heard I was able to get a good sense of how this speaker sounds. I've found that for myself, I tend to place more emphasis on an audio component's tone than its ability to produce a credible soundstage. That may have something to do with having a small listening area. Good imaging is certainly important but when listening to, for example, Thad Jones trumpet sound on "The Magnificent Thad Jones" it's tone on which I focus first. Best is, of course, components that do both well. Also, thanks for the comment on current. This is something that sometimes gets overlooked. When considering a speaker like a Magnepan 20.7, high current is really a must.

A couple of big boys for a change. I used to have a pair of infinity monitors that were about twice this size with 15 inch drivers. The foam around them disintegrated over time so they went to speaker heaven. These look a far more refined product than the infinity, though I did like the infinity sound.

The other benefit of offsetting the drivers is because it can help with time alignment between drivers. In this case the drivers would need to be mirror imaged to properly take advantage of the alignment. To me, the improvement in sound quality would be more important than the " heritage" look. That always bugged me with the jbl's these mimic. I remember when the the series one jbl L100's came out. Even before I understood the physics advantage of mirror imaging, I wanted them to be mirror imaged because I thought it would look better to my eyes.

I've heard these speakers 2 months ago in an auditorium in the middle of Paris (France) .. These Elipsons XLS15 were hooked up to a Marantz PM-8005 amplifier, and the music was coming from a laptop using Qobuz, sending the digital audio signal to an external DAC, connected to the Marantz amp. I had the possibility to compare these speakers with a pair of TRIANGLE towers (Triangle Signature Alpha), FOCAL towers (Aria 926), and a pair of Wharfedale Linton Heritage .. First, I listened to the wharfedales .. smooth sounding, laid back, quite warm but engaging, fun to listen to .. nice ! .. then I listened to the towers .. Wow, that was different .. The Triangles have a very forward sound, with energy in the highs, they sound open, clear, and dynamic ! But maybe a bit fatiguing during long sessions .. The Focals were the most balanced speakers I've heard that day .. everything was nice, but they had less bass, sounded less open, with less treble too, than the Triangles .. and less fatiguing too, so yeah, nice and affordable speakers .. Finally, I tried the Elipson Heritage XLS15 ... holy cow ... I don't know what happened with them, but they sounded awful ... by awful, I mean .. I wouldn't buy them even at a tenth of their price ... they sounded blurred, super dark, muffled, like an old pair of 50$ crappy speakers from the 80's .. it was like listening to music through a 10 inch thick piece of foam !! So be careful with these .. listen to them before buying, compare to other speakers, that's very important ! I personnally don't recommend them, at all !!

That is a bit odd. I wonder if they had something wrong with them 🤔
@michelrichert90523 жыл бұрын
@@abritishaudiophile7314 Maybe, I don't know .. There is a knob on the front of the speakers, that allows to set the high frequencies directly from the internal crossover .. maybe there was a problem with it, maybe it was kind of broken or something .. but I didn't like them at all .. I was very disappointed because Elipson is a pretty well known French brand (I'm French by the way), and the XLS15 have a quite nice vintage look that I like, so I was really ready to love them at the moment .. sadly, it didn't happen ..

My 2 cents, the wrong thing is partnering. A Marantz of that range is too laidback and can’t deliver the needed current. These speaker designs need a more neutral amp with a beefier power supply.

I enjoy the organization of your reviews. I also found your explanation of 'edge diffraction' to be elegantly simple to understand. I looked at the manufacturer's website. It is not clear whether 2000 quid is for one or a pair. They do say that they are "sold in pairs" but it is vague as to how many that price buys. It's academic for me, as the freight to the USA would sink the budget. How did you find the cabinet resonances?
@abritishaudiophile73143 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jim. I appreciate the kind words of support. In the U.K. they are £1790 for the pair. The XLS15 have two internal braces that keep the cabinet resonates in check. I couldn’t detect any significant resonance 😊👍

A lack of symmetry usually helps acoustics. You touch on that here. That’s why a room with identical dimensions, or a cube, is the worst possible. It makes logical sense as reduced symmetry minimises reinforcements and cancellations. It’s a kind of ‘averaging things out’ as much as possible.

I listen to my music in low volume level and my living room is about 15ft x 20ft. I have been thinking of buying BW 702 s2; do you think it is a wise choice? Or can you recommend another suitable pair of speakers? (At a later date I am also thinking of changing my amp to eHagel 95/160) Kind regards Dammika
@abritishaudiophile73143 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dammika. Very kind of you to say. It depends on what tonal balance you want to achieve. The 702S2 are reputed to have a cool tonal character. If that is what you are looking for then it is a good choice. You are right to focus on the speaker first. There are a lot of good choices. Try to use the information available to narrow it down to a choice of 3 speakers. Listen to all 3 if possible before deciding on a favourite. Good luck 😊👍

Bookies and a sub is only a matter of less visual impact in the room. The crossover point is never as good as in large cabinets. I always ear it, more or less depending on the gear quality and number of subs. Then 2 subs and 2 bookshelf speakers on good stands is more space and money consuming.
