"I want you to be your light" this phrase holds more weight that it seems. It is more than just seven random words placed together . It is basically telling us that we need to learn how to depend on ourselves and only ourselves. It is encouraging us to use ourselves as a light to get through the darkness. Everytime i listene to this song, its very comforting, once jimin said he wrote this song to himself, and it feels like he made promise to himself not be harsh on himself, like we can say they do a lottt and lott of hardwork, efforts in their life, and it can be tiring sometimes and lyrics says" i want to be your light, so that u wont hurt anymore"" how much ever you are feeling alone, don't throw yourself away", its like he is telling to himself what ever the hardships are lets not hurt ourselves. When I first heard Promise and read the lyrics, I was unsure. It was a beautiful song, especially the way Jimin used his voice... but it almost felt like a breakup song... but confusing. Then when Jimin explained in his Vlive that he wrote it as a promise to himself... I listened again. Yes, it's sad that he went through a tough time. We NEVER want our friend to feel that... BUT... many of us have those feelings towards ourselves. And it is obvious that in recognizing the problem, he found the answer. Now I LOVE it almost better than any other song. I've made it MY song and sing it to myself as well. Jimin... If you're out there... THANK you for working so hard to bring life to these feelings through music.
