Here's my personal theory: The Unknown Artifacts are part of a massive portal. They all align towards Merope to help calibrate the portal. They're designed to appeal to our quest for knowledge, so we take them all over the universe, allowing whoever is controlling them to better triangulate the exact position of where they want to come through. That way they can perfectly align the UAs down to a single point. The barnacles aren't just life, they're engineered. They've come through as part of the second phase, and once they've been there for long enough and the UAs have all aligned, _something_ is gonna come through. I don't know what, but I don't think it's Thargoids. I don't think that they're even from our galaxy. Because of the UAs' scanning abilities, they know the specifications of all our ships. They know our weapons, 'cause we've used them to blow up their shit. They're playing the long game.

For everything that I have learned from you from kerbal physics to real physics I feel as if I am a new person, the universe is now the center of my universe. Knowledge is one of the greatest gifts you have given me and many others but more importantly you made me think, and from thinking comes imagination. Because you of you I feel as if I am more imaginative than ever, I will never see the universe the same way as I previously have. Your videos have inspired me to set myself up for a future career in any job that involves space, and I am happy as can be learning more about the inverse everyday. And all of my current inspiration for space came from you, keep doing what you are doing scott. Never stop teaching others. THANK YOU!

I think it's a tad disappointing that no sort of scanners reveal any additional information. While it's certainly possible that there is some way everyone's missing, it means that you either have to choose to shoot at them for a defined gain or choose not to shoot them on the principle. I think principle almost always loses when there's no evidence to back it up.

The real problem with this game is that it takes some imagination, and most gamers have become brainless drones that want the game to hold their hand and guide them through a theme park. The real beauty of Elite is that the players get to provide their own narrative. So instead of whining about the price when there's games like $tar Citizen that are selling players digital ships for real life dollars in a game that doesn't really even exist yet (i've played the current alpha, it's AWFUL) I'll be over here enjoying this awesome sandbox. You won't be missed :)
@setsuna1f1seiei8 жыл бұрын
+Gregory Jeffery Also, great vid. Liked and subscribed :) Maybe I'll see you out there in open play!
@Phyankord8 жыл бұрын
+Gregory Jeffery they are not selling, they are allowing people to continue to donate money to the game, the ships they get are the developers thanking them for their support. not to mention you dont NEED to buy any more than a 45$ starter pack to play the game. you cant judge a game by its alpha state/content. thats like me judging a apple tree because all the buds are rock hard and dont taste like apples.
@xtremetuberVII8 жыл бұрын
+Phyankord EVAing, First person on foot combat, ship boarding as a result, literal player rescue missions involving stranded players without a ship, even without official distress beacons implemented yet, space-hoboing, which mean going to places without a ship, only relying on other players, thus having an already unofficial public transport/taxi system, unofficial cargo runs from point A to B, again even without official cargo implemented yet, and soon to be player trading, and clothing shopping at that. All of these interactions make up more of a sandbox than what I see currently in any game currently released, out there. Indeed, judging an apple before the fruit is ripened is a perfect analogy, but even in this regard, this alpha tree is essentially already giving you a few drops of apple juice.

I thought E:D was hyper realistic to replicating our galaxy. Aliens, pff. Wish Horizon's wasn't such a scam; $60 for planet landings is beyond absurd. Being gated from doing something that should be part of the core gameplay of any space sim (and is part of SC/NMS) is ludicrous.
@COLDDEATHDESTROYER8 жыл бұрын
+Ace Strife Horizons is a scam, you're right, but ED was never hyper-realistic about replicating the entire galaxy. Its just that a lot of the procedurally generated content is realistic, and the size and amount of star systems is as well. How did you really expect a game set 1000 years into the future to know everything about it? All of the space ship stuff is unrealistic by our standards. Plus, aliens are probable anyway, so don't scoff at their possible existence.

I played both of them, or let's say I tried to play Elite Dangerous about 5 times,, but alway gave up because of the over complicated way you have to play it, and because nearly each planet and space station looks exactly the same, and because of the tedious way you have to warp to another system. If you think NMS repeats itself to much this is even more the case with Elite Dangeorus. NMS is far from perfect, but believe me, it is much better than ED anyway.

Hey Scott, have you heard of Evochron Legacy? Same as Elite, but made basically by one guy, and actually does a lot better aside from planet scale and graphics. You can warp away from mapped systems (the only systems on the map are ones with warp gates) and discover new planets and star systems. You can discover planets with life, land on them, and build cities or star bases both online and offline without either being affected by online DRM. Voice acting, combat, fuel management, small campaign, easily my #1 space sim at the moment. It also has realistic physics, your ship doesn't apply its own brakes. You can boost and fly in any direction. Feels far better than Elite, even with FA off. Highly, HIGHLY recommended, check it out on Steam!

One time I was running a trade route between a large resource site for barnacles and a lucrative buyer about 9 jumps away. My second to last jump before the buyer's system would sometimes route me through Thargoid controlled space. I didn't really think much of it, it's just one jump right? Well I was eventually yanked out of witch space at that location and when I came out I was facing not just 1 or 2 Thargoid interceptors, but 7 in a symmetrical pattern. The worst part was they were perfectly superimposed between me and my next jump and I was flying a type 10 configured strictly for trade. I have no idea what type they were as I was too busy flying in between one of the gaps as they were scanning me. As I was engaging the FSD I could hear the sounds of them going into combat mode, but luckily I was able to make the jump and get the hell out of there. I suppose they got tired of me giving them the finger by flying through their space with 200+ Metal Alloys on board over and over again lol. Needless to say I paid attention to that second to last jump point and made sure to avoid their system from then on, which wasn't much longer because another resource took on more value shortly after so I dropped the route anyway.

I have a bad bad feeling about us shooting these things :) Good to see Frontier delivering on the alien life theme. More! Let's be having trees and vegetation (where applicable) and other such lifeforms.

Can you relog or switch to private, solo, etc and regenerate them? To potentially farm tons of meta-alloys?

Hi here Scott. I've just purchased Elite Dangerous for the PS4. I'm struggling to land on planets. Do I Need a better ship then the sidewinder. Or can the Sidewinder land on planets. If so do I need to Upgrade anything to do so. Thanks Scott Manley.

+Lets Play - No man's sky did you buy the Horizons update and install the planetary landing suite on your ship?

I was just at Obsidian a couple weeks ago on an exploration mission! I had literally no idea about the alien thing. Time to suit up and go back, I suppose!

Nice video, I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs make of this. Although given the way Brits have butchered the language, I don't believe I shall refer to them for any "proper" spelling.

When I can't sleep I watch ED video's and I fall asleep in 2 minutes every time, even in the middle of the afternoon. This game is so mind numbing it should be available on doctors prescription only.

You find out Elite is shallow when you realise you can play with 1 button. When you see that there're no differences between nav beacons, conflict zones and RES, the USS comes to you, you dont scan for them, neither you scan planets, you just point to them and wait. To enjoy this game you need to create your own rules and gameplay. It all comes to the same mechanics, shoot things, transport things and pretend you're exploring. Very simple mechanics with no challenge. The only things that are really well done are the sound and the graphics.

That whining noise is the ASP's engines. I confused me at first too, but like other ships, she sings in her own way.

I think there is a message in the sounds they make.. If only there was a way to decode it, I have no clue of how to do that type of things
