Fun fact, reboot/repair now gives you 50% shields as soon as everything powers back up I use it all the time when bounty hunting so I don't have to wait for my shields to recharge between targets (I have also used it in combat a few times in emergencies, boost away so you're out of range, reboot ship, and hope your shields come back online before the enemy gets back in range)

Don't use it in PVP though, if you are moving in the slightest it won't work and they could easily just ram you.

I did not know thatt, unlike silent runnig which kills your shileds and you have to wait for recharge and if you're in a bit ship with big shields its like 15 mins before they come back.

Man, Elite can be scary. One time, on my way to my friends location, my canopy broke along with destroying my fsd drive. It so happened that i got a little too close to a neutron star for a fsd charge up and everything went to shit. Luckily, there was a dock about 3kLs away. I had to use my navigation tab and lock on to the station as a waypoint to see how close i was, since without a canopy, i can't see the Ls distance between me and the station on my hud. Luckily, i did make it

Flying without a canopy is way more scary than I expected, I had a bad combat run-in in my Cutter and had to split to a station, hard af to mass lock a Cutter so escaping wasn't bad, it was spacing and supercruising one of the biggest ships in the game toward a station I can't see with no orbit lines or waypoints and using nothing but my gauges to know when to start slowing Size Queen's ass down so I don't happen to force stop and destroy the remaining integrity I had left. That was a fun experience lol And I too made it, and was rewarded with the most expensive maintenance bill I've ever gotten in Elite, think it was about 750k Cr

I absolutely love how the UI in ED isn’t just a pop up menu, but a real in game interface such that you can see it differently from camera suite, and that when the canopy is broken, the UI goes with it. Yaknow except galaxy/system map :/

Believe me, this game also supports VR. THIS situation in VR: be happy if you're already wearing your brown pants. Had a similar thing with the aliens of the game (thargoids) cause i got hyperdicted by TWO of them somehow, one attacked, one scanned and used the shutdown field. I got away with 16% hull + caustic damage -> overheat that shit to get rid of that fucking acid -> 3% hull remaining... I was in a call with someone. They fucking farted loud enough for me to hear and it was enough to make me flinch till I hit a fleet carrier to repair. I swear, alien isolation is a fucking childrens game compared to these situations sometimes. xD

A close one indeed. Reboot/repair saved me a couple of times in PvP. Once I managed to take my opponent by surprise and finish him, while he thought my thrusters were dead, and another time it allowed me to escape (and not lose my Python). A functionality that will save your life ^^

@@peta_sramek Reboot repair has been buffed since this video, but what it does is repair all modules to at least be functional. The buff is that it now reforms your shield at 50% strength alongside making your shot out modules work.

@@peta_sramek Reboot/repair uses durability from any modules above 5% to restore durability on any modules below 5%, taking twice what it gives to the repaired modules, but brings them back online if they are zeroed. If your ship is completely stationary, it will also bring your shield back to 50%. I had an experience where it rebuilt my canopy too while stationary, but idk if that was a bug.

Just fyi for viewers, jumping to supercruiser is subject to mass lock but not hyperspace (to another system). It's good to keep another system selected to make an emergency escape.

Just a quick psa, you can synthesize life support in the right panel if you are ever at risk of running out. I don't know if they had this in 2015 but we have it now.

whats really scary is that your hud will no longer show up when in supercruise, so hyou have to entirely rely on the tools to your lower left because you are truely aiming for a single pixel in space Had this happen on a type 6 and my canopy was breached on my way to a planet to sell, ended up jumping and flat out ramming into the planet's upper atmosphere because I could barely see it, the ship I was just escaping warped in right over my head just as I jumped back into supercruise to complete the glide down to the surface, touched down with less than 5 seconds left

If you high-jump, you ignore all the disruptive mass factors and do the fastest possible jump -- that's saved me a few times (and best pre-selected to ensure it's a valid destination with a dock close by)

Kinda unrelated but high jumps are also the best way to escape a white dwarf should you fall into the exclusion zone, I'd know cause it just saved my ass some 20,000+ ly from sol, the ship loves to face towards the white dwarf so you can jump to a star thats in a similar direction towards it.

That caught my eye too. How does the force not kill them? What baffles me even more is that the front of the ships are actual windshields of sturdy glass (whatever see-through material it is). I'd imagine far off into the space-faring future, ships made to be durable would be completely enclosed like capsules and the interior would show the front/ outside with cameras planted on the front, which project as monitors and create a seamless picture in the interior of the ship. That'd make even more sense to me as a practical, safe design.

Well i think that reboot was unnecessary. Your FSD and thrusters are fine, not even malfunctioning (80%+). You get a powerplant malfunction, so your power reduces to 40%, but temporally only, then it comes back to full power without rebboting! Because even priority one is exceeding 40%, then everything shuts down, but its comes back only after a few second, no need to reboot. So you could jump without reboot. This is a 5 year old video, but the newbies can learn from it.

From a pure gameplay perspective you have to. Unless a player has an AFMU or somehow loses their canopy within like 100km of a station, losing jump/FSD in the event of a canopy breach would be an instant death sentence. But yeah, lore wise, it makes sense. FSD is essentially an Alcubierri drive (may have messed up the spelling there) and hyperspace is like a dimensional tunnel or "bend spacetime so your origin and destination are next to each other" type travel method, so space debris is probably a bigger risk in realspace than in FTL.

the AFMU can be used to repair anything except the power plant and itself. Also you can still reboot/repair, the hud was reworked since this was made, its in the ship tab of panel 4

I don't see you being saved. Why did the video cut out at hyperdrive jump? You weren't saved unless you made it back to a station before your oxygen supply ran out.
