Again, sorry for your loss. Congratulations on your new little one. May the sleep be with you. Also, thanks for producing content even though you got so sick with long Covid. I know some people don't understand what it feels like to get sick and realize that your body rebels against your desire to immediately return to your former life. I experienced something similar with food poisoning about 10 years ago. It hit me like a ton of bricks, I nearly died, and my body wasn't the same for a few years. In Australia, you should be considered a national treasure like Steve Erwin, you are engaging and bring joy. Keep up the good work.

I think Byz player choose wrong composition to fight Japanese. Japanese is quite known for Infantry and Cavalry, but use Vanagian guard and Cataphact to fight seem not match (Espacially Cataphact that design to be back line wipe but Japanese hardly play backline). Main composition should be Mangonel (4-5) to wipe group of infantry and ranged unit to shoot infantry down with Limitanai as meatshield + Cavalry counter. Also Hippodrome isn't good landmark against Japanese that tend to go Daimou Manor that defend raid better. Even opponent didn't go fast Manor this time, Byz still don't do much early raid to justify going Hippodrome anyway.

IMO Crackedy could've done much better mid-game had he gone for wheelbarrow and melee armor earlier. WB is more cost-effective than gather speed upgrade when you have cistern bonus. Not having melee armor against onna-bugheisha with +3 melee attack made his units trade much worse in mid-game fights.

The base status for Varangian is pretty good, the only problem is their gold cost. You're paying the price of a Xbow for a "throw away" frontline unit, while the civ got no excess income of gold, the additional 20 gold/unit really hurt Byz in the late game. Not to mention the gold cost of Cheirosiphons, making Byz reluctant to Ram spam, which is the most effective strategy for other civs to win in the late game.

The win rate for Byz should rise up if the devs can adjust the cost structure for these units, OR give Byz additional income of gold, e.g. tickets in the Grand Winery, allow limited 1:1 or higher purchase rate for Olive Oil : Gold over time.

Top golf is not a good atmosphere haha. It's golfing without the peace and calm of a natural range. It's golfing with drunkards and hooligans shrieking and hollering about their shot. A famous golfer once said, " Damn You people, this is golf!!"

I'm a total noob at this game, so my opinion isn't worth much. But to me it seems like these top players often seem to lose because they don't put enough effort into building defenses. Byzantines had a big economic advantage, but they didn't even build a wodden wall in the front of the base. I feel like 2 layers of wooden walls plus a few outposts would have given him enough time to react to the japanese aggression. Once the japanese invaded successfully, they kept up the pressure and byzantines never managed to get these walls up. Drongo talks a lot about defensive layers of walls. I feel like players could even go a step further and plan out their base building even more. Segementing their entire base with walls, making sure the enemy has to break through multiple layers to get to heart of the economy and the landmarks. It seems top players are really prioritizing speed and throw down many of their buildings pretty randomly.
