Atlas SD24 part 3 lubricating and install gears

Is that a synthetic grease? Would you recommend a lithium based grease as well?

MAG-1 Hi-Temp brake grease is red lithium and 10 bucks is a lifetime supply. I started using it way back and when I stored 70 locomotives for almost 20 years, those that had the MAG-1 were in perfect condition, but all the ones that had teflon or silicone had turned to crap and many gear boxes are so fragile now that they either break or fall apart.

@@elite194 Thanks I am going to look for it! By the way, I have followed your advice on rebuilding some Bachmann pancake motors and split gears and it worked awesome!
