Your video was clear to me. You said you were leaving the salon suite. And that you plan to return to the salon sometime in the future (after maternity leave), but you won't be in a salon suite. I don't know how some people read more into your video. In the meantime, take as much maternity leave as you desire & return to the salon if/when you are ready. Sending love to you & your family.

I have been a hairstylist for over 40 years now. I can truly attest to every word that you are saying. I owned a salon, worked booth rental, managed a department store salon, as well as worked commission at JCPenney salon. I have found that working at JCPenneys was far more lucrative than the rest. The benefits are amazing, and the money is GREAT! Please try looking into it, you will not regret it! Congratulations on the baby!🎉🎉🎉❤

Gurl! Who the heck taught you business? That common since should've kicked in. Glad your learning from your mistakes. No living above your means or doing the most for clients before your pockets allow you to do so. You must go with the flow. Exactly why in Cali, ladies travel far an wide for them bomb home based hairstylist. The prices and styles are always better than you chics in the shops. It's the oldest game in the hairstylist business in Los Angeles California. If you want the flyers hair,go outside the shop and pay at least 50 dollars less and get what you like or better. Baby I've been in every single situation you've named. From my own salon with 8 booths for 10 years, to being in a storefront salon by myself for 5 years. To a salon suite for 4 years. You spoke no lies! Now I'm back to my own single salon with just myself, and I would never go back! Owning a big salon is so exhausting, you are responsible for every single thing. Even when people that rent booths from you don't show up, and you have to explain to their clients why they are a no show. It makes your salon look bad and then their clients have an attitude with you. And not to mention having to chase people down for owing you money. Like you don't have bills to pay too! Then the suite life is no better you are paying more money for less space and less control over you salon. One thing about this hair game is it is't for the weak! Cause baby when its good it's good, and when it's bad it's bad. I've been a licensed cosmetology for almost 30 years and even with the ups and downs I love doing hair, and couldn't imagine myself doing nothing else.

I followed a stylist for 20 years through it all. At one point she was thinking about working from home and I didn’t feel no way about it. She was so fast and she knew what I wanted. She went from a small salon to a bigger salon. To a salon suite to a booth. To a commercial salon (JCP). To a booth at a different salon. To a salon suite again. Life is a roller coaster she had a illness that started the ball rolling. I don’t go to stylist who “have arrived”. I don’t care about the hype I don’t even care about the hair style. I just want healthy hair. Congrats on the baby! Just do whatever you need to do. They will come!!!!!!

Hi Crystal, I wanted to express my gratitude for the help you provided to my daughter and me with our hair care needs. Despite living in California, I was able to have a productive consultation with you through Zoom. During our conversation, you attentively listened to my concerns and provided excellent recommendations for transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. Following your expert advice, we have been using the appropriate product mix that has resulted in healthier hair. I appreciate that you did not push unnecessary products and only suggested what was necessary. Your instructional videos on your channel have also been incredibly helpful in my hair care journey. Thank you, Crystal, for all the valuable contributions you make to the hair care industry. Wishing you and your family the very best! ❤❤

I appreciate this video. I've been licensed for over 20 years. I've been from chain chop shops, booth rent in salons and barber shops, owned a salon, rented an entire booth rental salon, commission salons and had a salon license on my home. Flint water mess happened and killed my home business. I'm 40 now. I'm exhausted on how expensive this industry has became and the arrogance of the new generation of stylists and just want to retire now. I'm just finishing my hours for instructor license at this stage of my career

I took the salon and added a barber shop and suite for waxing and lashes… it can run without me being there! At least that’s the plan . Good thing about it is I own the property! I knew early that I wasn’t gonna get trapped in that lease\ rent game! Blessings to you

She went from the one that she started out learning in her mother's hair salon, working it after mom retired. still had the same clients and got more. One day she left that to her brother to his haircutting business, to venture out into the salon suite. Stayed there for a year before she returned to the privately owned , fully equipped salon. She told me of landlord stories, and other stylists antics, and stealing, etc. You do what's best for you. Many Blessings to you. Yes, I stumbled upon you last year, and learned a lot. Crystal, I absolutely love your business talk video’s. As a tax accountant, I meet a lot of people who fall in love with the idea of entrepreneurship but they often don’t understand the importance of finance (business and personal) or the life cycle of a business, having a written business plan and most their business fail within five years. Your journey shows the peaks and valleys of entrepreneurship and to show that those challenges can be overcome with persistence, passion, being ethical and having a sound financial plan. Keep shining Crystal.

I appreciate all of the knowledge you taught us on this channel and look forward to your next adventure.

Wow! I wish that you had been my instructor in cosmetology. We sat there for hours drawing business cards, talking about salon synergy, and how to draw in clients. But NEVER, even after field trips to several salons, did they teach this. Breaking down costs, etc., man…that’s expensive. That’s one of the reasons I only went one year. When you see and hear how the salon business can reward you but it can also chew you up and spit you out, I knew I wouldn’t last a day. I admire you, you’re one of the strongest women I’ve seen. It takes guts to stand up to stuff like that. Don’t you ever apologize for a lengthy video. We love your channel and your content!!!

Sister you are spot on. I have been there too. My rent in New York City was $5000.00 a month plus insurance, plus ADT,water, electric, etc every month for 10 years. My rent was $3500 a month for the first 5 years. I had to put in all plumbering, electrical structure, etc . So sister I know the journey. I close my salon December 2021. I started my business in 1999. In a different location where my rent was $450.00 a month after 10 years in that location I was paying $3500 a month. I feel free a heavy weight lifted off my shoulders, brain etc

Thank you for your honesty! I’m a senior citizen watching your teaching, learning technique videos, that I enjoyed. Congratulations and enjoy your baby boy. You have been a blessing to us watching your videos! Continue to stay safe, healthy, and strong. My Granddaughter’s mother want her to become a cosmetologist, which I mentally do not agree. I’m going to share this video with them. Mrs. Crystal A. Williams, Thanks again.💐💐👏🏽👏🏽 I think she has changed her mind, because she text me some information about my Granddaughter attending a high school for college bound students. (she will be a tenth grader in September) I would like for her and her brother to major in Psychology. Good Luck Mrs. Williams. We’re going to miss you! The owner of the suites will miss your rent money more. God Bless!

Every time I watched you, I was so impressed with how respectful and kind you were. When you had a lady with very thin hair you were so kind and helped her to have confidence and beauty again. I wish you the very best in whatever you decide to do. And congratulations on your pregnancy! You are a dear person.❤

Some people create an in home salon and work independently that way. Of course there are state Cosmo rules, regulations, buisness licenses and inspections that still apply. Some people who have the space available on their home property that they own, buy small very cute " Davis Buildings" and turn those into one operator salon's. If course one has to run plumbing, electric etc. Anyway Congratulations on the new baby and new beginnings.💕‼

I wholeheartedly get it. Although I wasn't fortunate enough to have a suite, working in these salons/barbershops, etc. for over 30 yrs has taught me as well that I have had enough. From these manipulative clients to thieving stylists & barbers, I just wanted out. This wasn't the life beauty and barber school prepared me for. Now at 58, I now just do a few clients a month. Now I see why my other stylists friends now work at the airport, back in school, etc. Ms Crystal you will definitely find your way as we all have or will. I wish you so much success with the baby and Cosmetology goals. We'll all be watching... 🦋🥰✂️

Crystal taught me a lot about rental spaces. I am not a hairstylist but have thought in the past to rent space for audio, video, music, photo, data technology services. Crystal mentioned things I never gave thoughts to. I am very happy for Crystal to tell her experiences and truths and outlook on her business and personal endeavors. Thanks for sharing. May God continue to bless you. Smiles

When I seek out a stylist, my priorities are that they know their way around very curly hair & how to cut it, style it ect. You do whatever is best for you & the family. We only get 1 life... I think it's really awesome that you have the strength to get up & change what's not going the way you want it too!💪👍😊

That is true about some stylist. Their attitude esp for amateurs. I was sick of going to salons and having those young girls who just starting want the same money like those with 15 years experience and they don’t want to learn from the experienced ones as if they have arrived

I've been doing hair for over 30 years my love for being behind the chair isn't there. So in about 4 years I'll be out. But. I praise you for your dedication. And being there to talk and laugh when you don't. You get some rest to welcome that joy in the coming days. 🙏🥰

Hello Crystal I’m not a hair stylist and never have been but Omg! I never knew until this video what hair stylist go through! Now I understand why some of the hair stylists I’ve had in the past moved around. My sister n law has a salon in her home. She does nails feet and hair and she loves it! But she has a full time job too and works in her salon maybe a couple days a week. You did an awesome job breaking down the pros and cons of each one! God bless you with your new little one and your salon business! You are going to do well because you have a relationship with God and wisdom from him😊

All I can say is you spoke volumes. I’ve been in your shoes working in different areas. Right now I share a suite with another Cosmetology Instructor. I’m an Instructor too. We had to make that rush move also because the previous owners wanted to sell the building we were in to the suites because we needed to have a space to work. We now both talking about moving on. I’m about to retire from behind the chair after 30+ years in the industry. I’ll continue to teach and work on my treat making business.
