Ourasi was the best horse of history! When you take profil of race and condition of trip, ourasi done a huge performance! American didn't want to organize this race with European conditions and they didn't want that Mack lobell took a plane. So they wanted a race to compare the 2 horses in their conditions. With a longer lap ourasi would be very easy and other horses should have no chance! Ourasi forever!!!!!!

@@perandersson6366 Is it so difficult to understand that the conditions are skewed from the start? We don't run usain bolt and michael johnson on a 100 meters having taken a transatlantic plane to michael johnson shortly before the race! Is that what you call equal racing conditions??? To say that the Americans called Ourasi "the French poltron"... We know where the poltrons were in this story. Even if in the end it does not take anything away from the merit of Sugarcane.

@ramierechristiane

This race was organized only for the match between Ourasi and Mack lobell. The important thing was to know who was the best horse in the world and it's really Ourasi because he did not like running on this distance and yet despite a bad course he beat his main opponent. Unfortunately, in this duel, the driver of Ourasi will not see that he took in his back a very good Norwegian horse who will benefit from the situation! You must know that Ourasi has always beaten Sugarcane Hanover and that these two horses are not at all in the same category. Ourasi = ultimate legend. Certainly the best trotter in history just in front of Ideal Gazeau and Bellino II. Sugarcane Hanover and Mack Lobell = 2 very good champions among others ...
@ozziesollien7160
@ozziesollien7160 5 жыл бұрын
Didn't beat Sugarcane this time, did he. Funny that, how you can win, and still not be in the same category. How does that work? In the 1972 Olympics David Wottle won the 800 meters. But obviously - he wasn't in the same category as the other runners, because he won the Olympics only once. No legend at all. Just some lucky guy who happened to have a good day. Shame on him, taking the medal away from the real legends.

@@ozziesollien7160 Do you pretend not to understand my explanations ??? In this race, the only horse that would NEVER run this distance much too short was Ourasi !! It's as if a human athlete would run the 100-meter final while he's a 400-meter specialist. Yet, Ourasi nearly ran against his ability. If his avengers had met Ourasi on 1.5 Mile, he would have humiliated them all .... (but of course ... none of them ever dared to challenge the king in his castle ...) The only horse of American blood that I respect is Moni Maker because she was the only one to prove that she could succeed everywhere and on all distances (even in France ..)
@ozziesollien7160
@ozziesollien7160 5 жыл бұрын
I understood perfectly. If you fit a race to the horse, it will win and if it doesn't win, it is still best, because something was wrong with the race. I find it pretty condescending to state that a horse wins just because "it takes advantage of the situation, but it wasn't really in the same category". If you need to always win, don't start in the races you might lose, and then carefully explain that it is important to know that you really should have won, it was just that all the intricate little things that need to fall in place for you to do so, didn't happen. In any other sport, and race, to take advantage of a situation is regarded as an advantage - you make it appear as if it was cheating. I'm done with this.

He was a superb trotter but we can not compare him with the giant Ourasi. That day, Ourasi had a very bad run because of Mack Lobell, and then, Sugarcane Hanover to take advantage of Ourasi's back who wanted exclusively against Mack Lobell (as the race had been organized for both of them). This distance was not at all usual for Ourasi, and believe me, on longer, there would not have been the slightest hope for any one against him. This is the only time in his life that Sugarcane Hanover has been in front of Ourasi. So far, the top 5 trotters in the history of trotting are: Ourasi, Ideal Du Gazeau, Varenne, Moni Maker, Une De Mai.

Too bad that Carl Lewis did not win the 5 000 meters at the World Championship in Rome in 1987. Of course - he was the undisputed champion of running - it just wasn't his distance, and he did not win when it counted. Kind of cheating by the other runners, that, taking his medal away from him, because he was in a class by himself. He really should have gotten that medal, too, not only the sprint medals.

Why does everybody talk about Ourasi when Sugarcane Hanover won? "He did not like to run that distance" - so he would have won if it was another distance? What does that have to do with anything? March of Dimes WAS that distance. Of course a horse - or any athlete - will win if the race is specifically designed for it or him. Get real. And it was not a race for Mack Lobell and Ourasi. Everybody knew Sugarcane's potential - the key here was to show that a horse the Americans thought was done when it reached 5 years of age - which is what Americans do, could be a winner at 5 or 6 in other hands, as this was the age the Norwegians developed horses to reach their peak performance at. And it worked. Why take that away from Sugarcane for an emotionally charged switch in condition to benefit Ourasi, I do not understand. Ourasi lost, the world record holder Mack Lobell lost, and Sugarcane blew them away in a fantastic finish. What's wrong with that?
@litogor
@litogor 5 жыл бұрын
The reason is simple: This race was organized after several months of American provocation to force Ourasi to come face Mack Lobell on a US distance (they did not want to do 50/50 ...). The Mile is not practiced in France but exists in Sweden and Norway and Ourasi was a horse used to run around 1.6 Mile. Ourasi was the most disadvantaged of all and despite everything he made a hero race. Mack Lobell and Sugarcane Hanover (2 American horses) will always avoid running in France because they would not have had the slightest opportunity to win on French distances. Ourasi had the courage to do so and was only accidentally beaten by Sugarcane Hanover. Who is Sugarcane Hanover in the history of trotting? ---> just a very good walker. Who is Ourasi in the history of trotting? ---> just the best trotter of all time without any doubt ....

Ozzie, no doubt that Sugarcane Hanover was a nice trotter and he deserves a lot of credit for winning that race. But consider what Litogor says below and add 2 things: 1/ Ourasi was very bad with auto-start and 2/ If you want to see what happened few weeks before that race between Ourasi and Sugarcane, please watch that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6OQnWRsjal4kM0 and you'll understand that there is nothing comparable between the 2 horses.
