Listen to her Ortrud 30 years earlier. Yes, the same voice. She could easily sing Abigaille, Isolde and Turandot too. Sounding like a huge lyric soprano for so many years is a miracle!

@Barone Vitellio Scarpia i wasnt comparing either singer to any of the great singers del monaco,vinay,etc,but as a duet sung in a stand alone concert with a soprano who was excellent in her day and was dying from cancer while singing this i think they both did a very reasonable job.not everything has to be top class to be enjoyable

this is absolutely incredible. a legendary soprano with an intact voice in her mid sixties and the wonderful, versatile Michael Spyres - a miracluous tenor voice of beautiful, warm colour who can sing anything from bel canto to (lirico) spinto roles......... I wish I had been present at this concert. where did this take place?

Because he basically is a LYRIC tenor with good lows. Listen to the high notes: good quality, but not the steel required for dramatic Othello. Very wise man, this Michael!

No, he is certainly NOT a baritone. Yes, he has an enormous range and can sing very high and very low notes. However, what determines what type of voice one has, is not your range, but what notes you can sustain for a prolonged time without forcing.There are many examples of such singers: Callas, L. Price, Milnes etc. By contrast when Domingo lost his high notes he started to sing baritone parts, but despite his full voice and good technique he was not very convincing.
