Elizabeth Cotten, composer of "Freight Train" and many other unheard folk tunes of the early 20th century was born in 1893. Not until the folk revival of the 1960s was she rediscovered and championed as one of the most important voices/guitarist and composers of the 20th century. Her unique 'cotten pickin'' style, as it is referred to, was born of the fact she was a left handed player. So she took a right handed guitar and played it upside down. A move that influenced guitar players folk, Americana and rock players of her time and to this day.
