Thank you for reviving some long lost memories of the good old days when fever-pitch sexiness did not require vulgarity, nudity or foul language. With the aid of tremendous dancing talent, good choreography and a smart costumer these women did what today’s so-called “queens“ of whatever only dream of. And they did it without making themselves look cheap. I had forgotten what a sensation Joey Heatherton was at that time, brilliant dancer and drop dead gorgeous. And of course Ann Margaret and Elizabeth Montgomery went on to prove their depth as actors in some unforgettable roles. I gotta admit though, it’s awful hard to take my eyes off their tremendous physical charms. Man oh man! When I was growing up it was still OK to stop a female on the street and say “Miss, you look beautiful“ or even politely whistle. Sometimes they said thank you or just smiled and nodded but I never felt like I had offended anybody. These days you have to be so careful about what you say and who you say it to it just doesn’t seem like it’s worth risking the effort.

As a kid, I read one of Bob Hope's books, about this Vietnam Christmas tour, with photos from it. One was of Joey Heatherton doing this dance, shot from ground level looking up at the stage. The band leader was in the forefront of the photo, really getting into the music and grooving. The caption was, "Sexy, isn't he?" Heatherton so dominated the eyes, it was like one of those "can you find the hidden object" to even look at the whole photo and get the gag line.

You're talking about the 1960s and 70s? The era when men grew their hair long, and wore bright floral peasant shirts and flashy jewelry? And Twiggy- the stick-thin model with a flat chest and boy-bob haircut- was the hottest thing around? When performers like Mick Jagger adopted an androgynous sexuality, followed by the likes of David Bowie and Freddie Mercury? The sexual revolution that questioned everything about sex and gender? That era? Some people choose to look at the past with their own rearview rose-colored glasses, depending on what they're looking for. Sexual and gender fluidity has ALWAYS been a thing with us humans. Just saying. I personally was born in 1978; did not live through those decades. But most of my favorite music is from that era, as well as many of my favorite films. I've studied the history of American pop culture, from the 1920s through to today. And anyone who thinks that gender fluidity is some "new-fangled" concept simply does not know. It has always been there. From the boyish flappers of the 1920s to the long-haired hippies of the 1960s, to the gender-bending rock stars of the 1980s, through to today- elements of clothing, hairstyles, makeup, jewelry, societal roles, job opportunities, relationship dynamics, have always been changing and evolving. It may have come to the surface finally, broken through into the mainstream in a way that more people have been forced to recognize, in this 21st century. But anyone who truly experienced the 60s and 70s should know for a fact how much the concept of gender expression was a really big deal during that era! I'm a straight guy; I fully appreciate all of the feminine attributes of Elizabeth, Ann-Margret, Joey, Jill, and Raquel. They were all extremely beautiful, sexy women- and terrific dancers! But even during the time that they were being filmed, there were many others who did *not* fit the stereotypical molds of "women being women and men being men" according to what you imply: and there is absolutely nothing wrong with those people, either. -My 2¢
