Elizabeth Taylor - Violet Eyes

RIP Dame Elizabeth Taylor (February 27, 1932 -- March 23, 2011). While I've only seen 1 of her pictures, Elizabeth Taylor is one of those unforgettable actresses of hollywood's golden era.

In July 1965, I went to the Pantages Theater where the premier of The Sandpiper movie was being held. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were at a maximum of 10' from me. I could see them perfectly. Elizabeth DID NOT have purple eyes!!!! Both of them had the type of eyes that changed from green to blue. She was dressed in a gorgeous mint-colored dress which made her eyes look their natural color -- green. He was dressed in a black tux. So, for all you people who believe the story that she had PURPLE eyes are 100% wrong!

Sonia, I was there that night but it was at the theater across from Grauman's. I also saw her in 1961 before she went to Rome. The eyes sure looked a deep violet to me. I only remember her in a white gown and a young man who had a scrap book of her and came up and she was so charming to him. I almost forgot Burton.

The color of your eyes can definitely change with the color of the clothing. My eyes are naturally hazel. When I wear green they turn a brighter green shade and when I wear blue they turn to a blueish-teal color. (No, I don't wear contacts as they are not natural and I would never put anything in my eyes that God did not intend)!

You must realize that if you base this as an argumentative point, then it also applies to you. In addition, it must be realized that color photography at the time was not to the standard it is today. Wikipedia says that, but it's wrong: i spent a lot of my money buying very goog quality photos from the photographers...Her eyes appeared violet cause she had red/brownish spots on the blue irises: the mix gave a stunning blue/violet. The melanin wasn't sufficient to cover the retina.

Yes it actually did! The only response to me that made the most reasonable sense! I knew they couldn't be straight up purpleish! But In the meantime I have seen other pics of her and yes those were not the standard Blue that I usually see they were a very weird bright color, but this pic he chose is just Blue so lol he screwed that up. People with violet eyes, their eyes don't look bright purple! It's a violet shade of blue, that stands in contrast to bright blue eyes, and in great contrast to blue-green eyes. I do wish more of these shots were in color. I had never seen her in person, so I can't really say what she looked like face to face.

One photo only shows E.T. having "violet eyes" and this is no doubt because of the violet-cast light. There is no science behind the claim she had violet eyes, only photographs left, and many of them clearly show her aquamarine eye colour. Either you (and others) haven't a clue what the colour violet looks like, or you haven't seen many of the photos, in that case case you're not really a "fan"! any brief glance at a full-colour close up will reveal to an artist that her eyes are NOT violet.

Actually, she does have VIOLET EYES. Violet eyes are extremely rare and are a variation of blue eyes. They are believed to be caused by eyes having so little pigmentation that the red and blue blood vessels permeate through, causing a violet color of the iris. And colored contacts weren't available 'till the 80's I think... And Liz is a product of the golden age of hollywood.

Eye color classfication is generalized - brown, green, blue, hazel, with little variation in between (light, dark), therefore leaving no room for the rare classification of violet eyes. According to IMDb, one Taylor's trade marks was her violet eyes. In fact if you watch her color films, you can see quite a difference between her eyes and a standard blue-eyed person. Wikipedia states Liz Taylor's eyes did indeed appear violet. Hence we say she had violet eyes. Take care, David.

From the 60s forward there must have been hundreds of articles that mention Elizabeth's violet eyes. I never met her in person so I can't confirm anything, but the color of her eyes was certainly not just one person's opinion. I also know from interviews, lavender was her favorite color which probably helped make her eyes appear (by reflection) even more violet.

While E.T. did have an interesting eye colour, anybody who has viewed a few close up shots can see they all tell the same truth: Taylor had an interesting blue/green/aqua eye colour, NOT violet, magenta or purple, which are saturated with red.
