It really adds insult to injury that these companies are all collecting my data and tracking my activity in order to advertise to me, and yet still almost exclusively show me ads that would never be relevant to me. A huge percentage of my ads on Pinterest are for foods I literally can’t eat due to health restrictions and it genuinely just feels cruel. At this point I would happily pay a subscription for websites/apps if it meant I could have a decent and ad-free experience, but unfortunately they can make way more money off of ads and so most would never even offer that alternative.

happily paying for subscriptions shouldn’t be the alternative to being bombarded to death with ads, subscriptions are getting out of hand and the constant increase of their price. I think it's important to collect your own thoughts, in addition to collecting ideas. Card files are great for this. When you find something inspiring, get in the habit of jotting down a few ideas for using it in your own work. "Embroider flowers like this on hem of linen dress?"... "Maybe use this color scheme to posterize that photo of dog on boat"... "this pattern would add depth to encaustic mountain background". Otherwise your inspirations just go into a black hole and often you can't even remember why you liked something

Pinterest is just not as fun as it used to be, there are way too many ads and mostly obnoxious or vulgar. I really appreciate you sharing this information. I can't wait to check out these sites. I am kind of a Pinterest addict for anything arts or crafts. Earlier this year, they took my board away from me for too many violations of pins that are not allowed. They wouldnt even tell me what the pins were to give me a clue. How am I supposed to know what is and isn't allowed when the site is flooded with things that you would think are copyright infringement. I lost tens of thousands of pins that I had been saving for years and had to start all over again, and it still ticks me off. I had so many pins, that I had over 5,000 followers, now I have none. My biggest Pinterest gripe is their search function. There’s no way to specify “this” NOT “that” like with Boolean, or ways to filter. Particularly for AI generated content, now that it’s becoming more common. Plenty of places have implemented a filter for AI content, and at least have the option to specify that something was made partially/fully with generative AI. Pinterest’s UI/UX overall has just fallen so far behind

I've started investing in buying actual photo stock packs, that way I get exactly what I want. It's not even that expensive, and I buy a couple packs a year and try and use them as much as possible. Still need to watch the vid but saving it, currently looking for alternatives.

something i do similar to going in nature is people watching! this mainly works in larger cities for me, but i was in DC recently and just observed what people were wearing. it helped a lot with pattern mixing, textures, proportions, and different colors

I love some these really elegant solutions to things like public domain, I love digging through it but it can get tedious. I can tell I'm really gonna enjoy my research and design time more, thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for this. I used to be OBSESSED with Pinterest, now I hardly go on there. Sick of being advertised to non-stop. The user experience is absolute garbage… I want quality inspiration, not sloppy AI art and fast fashion ads lool.

Gave up on Pinterest years ago. The repetition drove me insane 😢

Thank you very much for such a video! In my country they are going to block Pinterest, so it was very useful for me to know what alternatives there are, so that I don’t have to go to Pinterest every time through some efforts

The amount of NSFW ads I keep getting on Pinterest is ridiculous. Most of them are very suggestive, cringey webtoon ads that make me want to gag, and then there's just provocative ads in general that continuously pop up. And then Pinterest has the gall to call my pins violations when they're tame?? Like the only "risqué" things I save are people doing figure drawing poses, but they're not in suggestive positions at all! And then of course there's the damn AI 💀 I was looking for some crochet patterns, but I have to wade through the sludge of fake images. It's gotten to the point where I can't even save animal references without finding some fake AI bats!

Thank you for this! I quit Pinterest over a year ago, it was too frustrating. I’m looking forward to checking out these alternatives.
