Randy, sorry to hear about your right eye degrading after Lasik. I'm 37, had surgery in 2011 at Lasik Plus in SLC. I happen to have the exact same issue - my left eye is "normal" while I can tell my right eye has become slightly blurry with text. I'm concerned that it'll continue to get worse and limit my use on rifle scopes, binos, etc. because I, too, am right-eye dominant. However, I'm hopeful that there is a pattern in folks like us that opticians can prevent.

Hello Corey and Randy I lay here listening to your podcast and it's great as always. You guys are talking about trying to go hunting Elk often. I'm 56 and I go every year elk hunting either draw or over the counter. But I'm hoping next season is going to be able to since I'm waiting to see if I'll get a chance on a double lung transplant. But with any chance I'll be out hunting Elk some way.keep up the great podcasts.

These are great podcasts with tons of great info. I started at #1 and have made it to #13 with plans to get current. But when Cory throws off on training with a mask and then in the next sentence says "you need to get you body used to gasping for air no matter what elevation you are at?" Let me assure that a mask will do that. They should not be labeled as altitude masks, but if you want to gasp for air just try it. BUT , only during recovery. Get on an airdyne bike or push a sled or knock out 15-20 burpee-pullups and pop that mask on right after you go hard and get back to me on it. Your entire cardiovascular system will be extremely taxed and therefore respond accordingly. Just a nugget from Ben Bergeron

Randy - get the “Verifier” by speciality archery (and others I think) peep sight system. It will add some weight to the string (speed reduction) but clears up the pins.

You two should be very proud. Ok I know you are. The way you talk about your kids bulls vs your own tells the story. They both got really awesome bulls. I have elk hunted for 30 years and have never had the opportunities to kill a bull even close to what they got. Yes their mentors are the best of the best. But still my dad was very much the same. I live in Colorado but as a kid I lived in Wyoming and Montana. The opportunities in those two states are far greater than Colorado. Mostly because of hunting pressure. The red ant hill effect. Especially during the over the counter seasons. Im really looking forward to putting in for those two states this year.

Interesting discussion on hunting in altitude. I am a flat lander, living in Virginia. I train year round to prepare for my Colorado elk hunt. I train on the stair stepper and treadmill wearing a forty pound weight vest. I walk 3 5ks a week on the treadmill with the vest trying to beat the last time I trained. I bike, lift weights on days that I don’t walk the 5ks. Nothing I do can train my body for the lack of oxygen at higher elevations, however, l do take altitude sickness pills the couple of days that I scout before the season opens. I am 64 years old, the training helps tremendously. I hope this helps someone.

Cory, Randy, A little late in responding.... In regards to your eyes, one must understand what a proper sight picture is and focus. As men get older, their eyes generally change. Typically around 40y/o. So young folks can plan on it! A human can only focus at one location at a time. You CAN NOT focus on your front sight or pins at the same time you think you can focus on the target. It is the way we are designed and no one can argue that. Focusing and Seeing are two different things. That said, you should absolutely be focusing on your front pins or for rifle or pistol, your front sight. And because of that, your target WILL be blury or out of focus. This is a proper sight picture. Your front pin should be a clear as can possibly be and for older men, this may require glasses....low power reading glasses. 1 or 1.5 power. You can buy shooting glasses or have them made where the bifocal part is on top of the lens instead of being on the bottom like reading glasses. As a firearms instructor, I see this issue all the time and I wake up most students to this issue and it is like a light coming on for them.

Great POD case like always, thank you. As for working out or being a gym rat, what I see are hunters who start a program late December and by March have completely stop then rush to try and get back into shape for the season. I have a good program - could be better. But what I find funny are running into story tellers who over exadurate the size of an Elk and how far they packed it out. What is funny about the story is these people are usually in terrible shape and what they did would have injured them or killed them. Anyway, a year round program is essential to what we enjoy.
