There is a reason why she was awarded 11 doctorate degrees from the nation's most prestigious universities. No other singer has accomplished that as well as being the most recorded female vocalist ever, with almost 250 albums to her credit. Indeed, tihe First Lady Of Song!!!! It just doesn't get any better than this. How fortunate we are to have experienced "The Wonder Of Ella".

Billie will always be the Queen of Jazz - through such hardship and abuse she pioneered female jazz vocals and her voice is truly unique and iconic. Ella is good, but Billie was a star.

@@slipslider9048 I think Billie Holliday was a superstar for a different reason than Ella was. Billie could tap into people's "mental" mind moreso and that made her unique and very very special as her voice was. But Ella was different, capturing best what the United States saw as the one of a kind, true American voice. And I can see why she easily fit that bill. Ella's sound was the perfect image of America when it came to music at the time. There were many very good singers at that time, but Ella's sound, her interpretation, her way of creativity could not be matched by anyone. I don't say these things lightly. Listen to her recordings or performances like these. She was the very best at what she did. It's beyond inspiring. And her infamous modesty, made her even more appreciated. She genuinely never thought she was as good as she was! But haha, she indeed was!

Nobody comes within a mile of Ella Fitzgerald. She was absolutely fantastic. It's all here in the fine detail. Just listen closely and realise that nobody else ever came close to her. The effortlessness and modesty she imparts are so refreshing in a world of so-called divas. She scales the octaves effortlessly and more importantly in theme with the sentiment... not just randon screams like lesser modern singers. Ella knew her song, knew the music and thank God people appreciate her today.

Ella Fitzgerald flourished on live television. This was a bejeweled period for her in the 1960's, when the networks fought to get her on their variety shows: Ed Sullivan. Steve Allen. Dean Martin. Nat 'King' Cole. Dinah Shore. Carol Burnett. Hollywood Palace. Flip Wilson. Johnny Carson. Andy Williams, not to mention the dozens of one-time television specials and one-woman concerts. Brava!!

My my goodness, listen to this oozing beauty. The unmatched voice of Ella, and that beautiful music and the tickle of that piano, the violins, the interpretation Ella has and the way she delivers the pure elegance and power of her notes are just mesmerizing. True beauty down deep in every way. In the beginning where Ella is scatting and improvising as she typically did, she was merely passing the time and getting warmed up! I just love how she improvises in the beginning and just creates and makes it up as she goes. She never sings the same song the same. Truly one of a kind.......Ms Ella! The fact that a black woman during this time and even earlier to not only sing this music, but to do it better than anybody else must have been a shock to many. I can only imagine the conversations of the shocked ones back then!

There cannot be a single so- called performer who can come close to the standards this grand lady has set. I belong to a whole other generation when jazz is not heard that often. It is Miss Fitzgerald's singing technique that has left me spellbound. This is THE best version of the song and it even surpasses the quality of the version in her album. This is a divine experience-- listening to her. She emotes so well and the despair in the lyrics is so well portrayed. No one can outdo it. Ever. The scat at the beginning adds a whole new dimension. She is an angel. I wish I had heard her before. What a genius!! WOW!! Blessed she was.

The night is cold and I'm so alone I'd give my soul just to call you my own Got a moon above me But no one to love me Lover man, oh, where can you be? I've heard it said That the thrill of romance Can be like a heavenly dream I go to bed with a prayer That you'll make love to me Strange as it seems Someday we'll meet And you'll dry all my tears Then whisper sweet Little things in my ear Hugging and a-kissing Oh, what I've been missing Lover man, oh, where can you be?
