If that’s her “faded” voice I’m afraid to hear how good her good voice is. Simply peerless. Effortless Mastery.

There really will ever be only one Ella Fitzgerald. These little treasured performances are such valuable reminders.

Amazing how wonderful her voice was, even at that age. Changed a little, yes, but still pure and gorgeous. I can't think of anyone, even a quarter of her age, that has anywhere near the quality of voice she had in her 70's. What a singer. Truly the best.

Amazing for a 73 year old lady. I love the flashes of her youthful voice in her performance. A very human performance that reflects a lot about life. Thanks for this.

When my mom was away at college at Georgetown University sometime in the late 80’s and early 90’s (she graduated in 1990), she saw Ella sometime during those years at The Wolf Trap in Virginia. To this day, mom still says that it was one of the best live shows she had ever seen. Also I must say: for an old lady of 73 years, she still had a fantastic voice in her, given her failing health.

@@stevenf5027 Yes, I saw her many times. First 1967 when I was very young. Since then I collect all her records and read each book about her, what I could find. She was unique.

Thanks for this, glad you had your VCR on that night! Ella is superb granted older but with the feeling and sincerity on "A house is not home" you can't beat her. I really noticed she interviewed very well on this one, time made her more relaxed than any other interview I had seen of Miss Fitzgerald. My Gratitude to You, A huge Ella fan.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I agree about her version of this song - old and shaky though the voice is, it's a really classy version of the song. Very moving. I'm also a huge fan. :0)

@@johnj.coakley7856 really I know dusty and dionne both did it in the 60s but I thought it was written for dusty tbh by Burt. I know Burt wrote a lot of dionne hits too. TBH its interesting Ella chose to sing it too . Lovely song and three massive legends all choose to sing it.

Interestingly, Ella seemed to have more voice in this appearance than she did on her final studio album, which she recorded a year earlier. Sadly, her last public performance was just a year later.
