@Ellbat no problem and good for her!! Glad she started lifting weights haha Yeah, high impact sports aren't the best. Depending on the severity of your (h)EDS, you can work towards it though. I did do some self defense sports (jiu jutsu, karate, taekwondo, tried out MMA). There is a slight advantage being more flexible than most. Certain holds won't hurt you that much & you can wiggle out of some. But putting others into holds can be a bit more difficult 😅

I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos 5 years ago, at 31 years old. The whole "train and you'll stop being disabled" is completely on point. @@attiethetitanwhat bothered me was that it seemed like violets EDS symptoms were only mentioned when the author was trying to show she was weak but then when violet was fighting her EDS like went away. as someone who is suspected to have EDS (the disability Vi has) it’s hilarious seeing people from the outside talk about this book because even the “i’m glad i have the dragon scale vest on or id have bruises tomorrow” thing IS actually a part of the illness😂 it sounds so tropey and “im so smol!!!” but it genuinely is the illness every time😂
@Ellbat3 ай бұрын
omg that sounds so painful??? shoutout to the eds girlies for enduring that. i think the issue is that because it's constantly mentioned how little she is (5 foot), it starts to feel like "shes wounded/weak because she's so petite and little uwu" instead of "oh she has an actual disability". that's why a lot of readers really didnt initially clock that violet has EDS i think (me included) and it just feels like trope bait ahhaha
@lightworthy3 ай бұрын
@@Ellbat no i completely understand! they don’t explain what she has basically at all and just leave it to vague “im so weak”descriptions, so her technically entirely accurate symptoms absolutely come off as pick me & the “i’m so tiny i can’t even exist uwu!!!!” type shit instead of disability representation! especially as someone WITH eds it’s a bit annoying to see how it’s handled because she’s too fragile to function, then bam she’s basically able bodied??? like yes eds symptoms like subluxations, dislocations, chronic pain, fatigue, etc are all helped by some form of strengthening/exercise for many people, but it’s a genetic disorder, we still have symptoms at PEAK health! like personally it became disabling for me when i was a competitive cheerleader tumbling multiple times a week on top of 2 practices a week! also i hope my comment didn’t come off harsh, i just thought it was funny! especially other people ive seen have had the disability aspect FULLY fly over their heads so its been funny being the one who actually knows about it first hand. especially because the book describes it so poorly it makes sense why it isn’t understood (and to be fair, she just does in fact do That with it all anyway😂)

Here I am, just finished the video (I've been watching this sneakily at work) and I have to say, I feel seen. I am a big fantasy reader, and have dipped my toes into some romantasy, and whilst not a huge fan, I have enjoyed them mostly. This book drove me nuts with the worldbuilding and the whole Violet is soooo clever, yet never makes a smart choice. I especially loved that you pointed out the whole nobody noticing the poisoning, because that was driving me crazy whilst reading it. If this society has issues with lacking soldiers, I don't know, send those who can't be riders, into infantry? That said, I still read the second book, it did not get better, and I will read the third book because, honestly, I need the reading pain. Anyways, loved the video! Hilarious run through

I dont even read that much, certaintly not romance and I wouldve never have expected this to be something I would watch, like ever, but the way you talk about the books, and everything you do around it, just makes it so funny and enjoyable, cant wait for the next review, this is legit one of my favorite things on YT at the moment.

I’m usually more of a silent watcher, but I’ve been eagerly waiting for the next installment of this series since I finished the last one. I can’t believe it took a whole 12 days for my algorithm to show this to me-I feel completely betrayed! So here I am, finally engaging and hoping to give this series the attention it truly deserves!

I rarely watch long videos anymore but this video was a treat all along! You summarised my feelings about very well, I was never able to put it into words, thank you! It was my first real romantasy book and I wasn’t sure if the strong focus on romance is just not for me. But now I think because other relationships and the world building was lacking, the focus on the romance felt so strong. I am reading ACOTAR right now and I am very interested in your review for that. I’ll have to hurry though 😂

Gurl I came here because after finishing the acotar graphic audio books I decided to take on fourth wing without having actually read the books. I had to restart the audiobook FOUR times to understand the first hour of story because my brain was having information overload and I just couldn’t get it. I’m now maybe 60% through and hooked on it 🤣 you get an instant subscribe from because I came for some clarity on the story but I’m staying for your humour. You are absolutely hilarious 😭 throughly enjoyed this

I read these (both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame) immediately after reading all of the ACOTAR and I honestly loved them. You do make fair points about some of the pitfalls but I was able to overlook most of them. I love you doing these recaps. I'm sure they take so much time but enjoyed every minute! Thank you

This is genuinely the funniest unhinged recap ive seen. I loved the twisted one as well and quote it quite often

It took me 2 months to finally watch this vid bc my semester is stressful as hell but man was it worth it. You're so funny and I LOVE when people do these "I read/watched xyz so you don't have to" type of videos bc I'm very sensitive to cringe but also like. I am not immune to the spectacle of it xD So I need someone to recap it so I can experience it second hand lol. I'm so looking forward to your next booktube vids!! (but also please take your time love, these must be incredibly exhausting and time consuming to produce. They're definitely worth the wait for me!)

break ACOTAR into 1-3 and 4-5. 5 is the longest and 1-3 sort of wrap up a storyline 😊

oh wow, i read the comments expertin mikes mic references but these actually all seem like hardcore fourth wing fans! Impressed! I will keep on watching, but just wanted to say that i love how you got me to watch a video about a book series i don’t know anything about as mike did about a series! Love the vibe✨💫🧚🏼

Just discovered & finished these books this week. I’m so happy to see your recent recap. The swearing were my exact thoughts 😂 very cringey at times, but I will be waiting for the 3rd book next year!

So I watched all 4 wonderfully unhinged hours and I have thoughts. 1) I actually read ACTOAR and Fourth Wing because of your twisted video and wanted to follow along your next unhinged review, so thank you for that. 2) I definitely thought Fourth Wing was already 3 books and was fully intending to jump right into #3 while throwing the middle finger to the cliffhanger in #2 because I am generally the last to the party and the fact I have to wait til Jan like everyone else is lame. Thanks for that too? 3) I definitely picked up on Dain’s signet explanation being face touching and when that was a plot point I was genuinely confused why Violet went off, like girl, he literally told you. 4) I did not pick up on characters sharing their hopes and dreams briefly before getting written off, but it definitely tracks. 5) Thanks for clearing up her previous books because I was wondering where this series came from, it is such a departure from her others (which are not remotely appealing to me) 4) I mentally pronounced Jessinia’s name Jess-in-e-ah. But also went with Bas-gath (like gate ending in -th) and Poro-mi-el, and Sgale (like scale but a soft g instead of a c) and at the end of the day I don’t know how to pronounce any of it TBH. I thought there was mention of a they/them character but I can’t remember who for the life of me. 5) Rhysand does not start with X, V, or K. Looking forward to that amendment 😂

Am I crazy? I thought there was a forward that confirmed Violet's having Ehlers-Danlos syndrome before you even started the book. Maybe I remembered it because I have a close friend diagnosed with it, so it actually meant something to me, hearing her move through everything with it.

FYI -most people only retain about 25% of a book they read. It increases the more you reread it.

do i like reading, including romantasy ? definitely; do i like booktok in general and how it's changing the modern literature world ? definitely not; am i gonna watch this cause i love your videos and how you present everything ? definitely Edit, P.S. and TMI on my private life : i never thought i would talk about this seriously online but jokes aside about 3:26:10 , it can actually be kind of a trauma response or an extreme way our body "found" in order to not think about it for some time, how do i know that ? bc it happened to me when i lost my father and i felt extremely guilty about it and kind of like a sick/twisted person until my therapist explained it to me
