I am a big fan of her films. You are correct and does this also in ‘lost in translation’. She obviously has a keen eye for young talent having cast Scarlett and in this film Elle.

Elle hits it out of the ballpark! Living in Canada and lacing skates at 5 years old I can tell you Ice skating is hard to master . She either was doing this at an early age or had a kick ass instructor or both! As an added note Elle is turning out to be a terrific actress and not afraid to take on difficult roles. Prediction….Elle will win an Oscar in her lifetime.

People are criticizing the skating but you kind of miss the point if didn’t see the movie. I saw this randomly when I got home from the ER after I was diagnosed with cancer(I’m better) and it had a profound effect on me more some reason. I get why people wouldn’t like it but if u pay attention it’s powerful stuff. Some people just don’t understand art and they’ll never get movies like this and that’s cool too

Congrats! But the movie is a Sofia C. standard and an aquired taste. I like it a lot and the performances of both lead actors was great. Very moving movie and ending. A life of excess and mindless pleasure seeking can lead to bitter disappointment and regrets toward your own psyche and destiny.

Tony hope you are doing well. This and lost in translation are in my bucket list of favourite films. Sofia Coppola understands inner solitude , love, banality of life and disconnect. Sometimes we can let life quickly pass us by and miss what’s important. This skating scene and music is just perfect . Elle is a young girl in this movie well cast. She is now grown up to be an outstanding actress/model and very beautiful indeed. Oh and by the way as a Canadian born with skates her skating is very good.

Yes, thank you. It’s a beautiful film. Elle’s character is skating as an amateur and, just that, a young girl practicing a routine. Her character isn’t a pro. If you’ve not seen the movie, you just won’t understand.

Imagine being a late 30's early 40's actor. you're very popular, but here you are watching your teenage daughter ice skate. you're being a good dad, people say your daughter skates like shit, but just because its a movie doesn't mean its theatrical. few understand, and thats ok.
