Gosh I think you always have those thoughts, its not just the 6 month mark - I moved to New Zealand 5 years ago and I'm still think about moving home! but Connor is right the grass isnt always greener and its a blessing that we're able to move abroad, its a challenge and not easy but it is such an adventure and so rewarding being able to say you've done that!! xx

I have been in Australia for 2 years.. I didn’t settle until 8 months and as much as you love your new life, there will always be times of wobbles. As you said 1 little thing can create a huge wobble and question everything! I will also say I struggle if I don’t make it home every 6 months for a visit. However being home for 2 months this time.. I struggled to feel like I belonged at home but still question where the best place to be is. Once you have a home in more than one place your heart never feels complete.. but it is always worth it and the feeling of gratitude and appreciation always wins ❤

So relieved for you both sticking with your move and working through that pull to home.. because my god it is tough!!! There are always pro’s and cons to the experience you choose to go through in life.. and these experiences in the US are some you won’t ever come to regret. You are building your life portfolio and there is so much bravery and character building being done ❤

We moved several hours away from our home of 24 years, and it took nearly a year before I felt like this was home! I know being in another country is different, but uprooting yourself after that many years came with it's own set of problems/issues/challenges. I would say don't give up before the magic happens.

Texas girl here! You can absolutely “ride out” most of the hurricanes/storms! Grew up in Houston (Sugar land) and we did that for most! It truly depends on the area (suburb, etc.) you live in!

AS a US born American, Health Insurance is much easier and cheaper when you get it through your employer. Also, I am not sure if your insurance offers this service, but instead of spending so much time calling to find a practitioner or dentist etc. you can find out through your insurance who in your area is within the same network. For example: mine has an app and I can filter what type of provider I need and it will give me all the providers currently taking new patients and accepts my insurance. Hope this helps, love to you both ❤

When we first moved to the US I cried thinking we made a huge mistake then my husband got British TV set up then I was fine, just needed that little bit of home! Now we travel back and forth having the best of both worlds. Normally we spend the summer in the UK the Texas heat is more than I can handle and go home fro Christmas. We were planning on going home to stay 6 moths and 6 in the US but not until the elections are over.

When I lived in Dallas, I always had solar batteries and a bag for me and my dogs with some cash (for me about $1000) in smaller bills in case the power was out for several days like it was when Katrina hit the banks couldn't give out money and no one had small bills to exchange. So pack bags and keep them under the stairway as your emergency 'get out' bag that has everything you and your dogs need, along with first aid, money etc.... Also some food and water storage is a good idea too for at least 4 days minimum. That is just my two cents, I work in healthcare as well so the people who are prepared always do the best. You just never know, especially with the changing weather systems

I enjoy watching mummysflippinhouse who is English and has just moved back to the UK after 10 years in the US. She talks a lot about the costs in the UK compared to the US and I am so shocked. I had no idea it was that different now. We used to travel to Florida a lot when our children were little and it was always good value to eat out, food shop etc. I don’t think we will be going back any time soon!

What you’re saying about moving away to grow.. I can fully relate! Me and my mum have always had a rocky relationship more so since my dad passed when I was 16! My mental health struggled a lot. I tried to move but when I was pregnant at 19 with my first I wanted to be home so had moved back into my mums but when he was 5 weeks old she kicked off stuff happened next day I was upping my life moving 200 miles to my partners mums with our newborn! Now 6 years on I’ve grown loads as a person.. I’ve become more in tune with myself and now looking into adhd and asd testing for myself.. my oldest is going through it all currently! But my life has honestly changed for the better since moving away and people are always going to be there who truly care for you 🥰

I moved to Canada from Scotland when I was 23 and heavily pregnant. I didn’t enjoy it and found it so hard to settle there. Managed 16 months and we then made another move to Hong Kong and had our 2nd child .. we’ve lived here for 9 years now and no plans to move back to UK anytime soon. We’ve only gone back 4 times in 11 years for holidays. It’s hard moving away but it gets easier with time.

Truly enjoy watching your videos and living vicariously as you both bravely explore a brand new world as a young family! And the positive attitudes you maintain. However I do feel a responsibility to point out, as I’m sure you have viewership from all over, that many of the pros you’ve listed pertaining to the US - access to thorough healthcare, decent insurance, activities/clubs/sports for children, safe community spaces and events etc - these truly are privileges that in this country are very much limited depending on the demographic and income. I just don’t want it to come off like the US is a lovely fairytale all across the land. Not to be negative or take away from the happiness you have found here at ALL. I’m so happy to see the beauty you’ve found in this new life stage. Just wanted to point out that these things are not accessible to many people here and I wouldn’t consider most of them even the standard anymore. Not just those experiencing poverty. Even families in the (shrinking) middle class cannot afford many of these basic “luxuries.” We have people in this country losing their livelihoods because of being diagnosed with cancer or chronic disease, etc. I believe it’s just important to keep this in mind.

Always happy to see you both! Glad you are staying. Very normal to go through a period of the blues after such a major life change. I think you are pretty courageous to make such a huge move to the US. but it does sound very expensive. In my heart of hearts, I do believe you will eventually move back to the U.K. simply because of your family and friends. It would certainly never be a failure on your part if you did decide to do that as you are currently living your dream. I also think the distance makes travelling back and forth so much more challenging - if you were in a European country, it would be easier but then you would have the language barrier. I must admit I would be pretty scared regarding hurricanes and tornadoes but here in Greece, we have the worry of earthquakes! Whatever, I wish you and your children the very best.🧡🍁🍂

We’re very partial to our favorite place but we want to strongly recommend that when you visit California, when you search the world to find another spot to settle, that you visit/consider Redlands, CA. I (Teri) have been here my whole life and I’ve traveled to many different places and it’s still my favorite. We aren’t on the beach but here’s the thing… you can get in your car and be at the beach in 1 hr. Within one hour you can also be in the mountains and equally so within an hour you can be in the iconic Palm Springs (my second fav). For a place in California, the Redlands area is more affordable (more so than the beach anyway) and it’s a “large” town with a very small-town feel. If you don’t settle here you won’t regret visiting. If you’re ever close please say hello and let us show you around. 😊 We’re new subscribers but I’m (Teri) already obsessed. I’m so in love with your genuine and grateful heart and I’m happy to admit that I’ve cried along with you when you’ve poured your heart out about your homesickness, dreams and stories of your mom. Thank you for being willing to share your life with us and we look forward to seeing wherever life takes you and your lovely family. ❤

You are definitely being ripped off on dog insurance - I pay $61.00 per month for one dog. You do have to buy it when the dog is under 1 year old. Salaries are a lot higher in the US for equivalent jobs. I don’t know about social media though. Taxes are lower in the US also. I lived in Europe for almost 20 years so I have lived in both. I love Europe and there are pluses and minuses to each place. In a tornado you should never be upstairs- you should be in the lowest level.

Am I right in thinking the salaries in US are generally higher than here in the UK though, which reflects the cost of living. Not sure if you're getting paid in US dollars or UK money still now, but I wonder if that is why it feels particularly tight, because you are on 'UK Salary' but US prices, whereas a lot of people out there will be on higher US Salary.

100% agree with the moving back comments, we have lived in Canada 7 years now, the first couple trips back you have a feeling oh do I don’t I etc but yeah nothing changes back in the UK and ultimately your life in the US is better for your kids in the way of opportunities and that’s how we feel for us and our family too. We now can’t wait to get back to Canada after our UK trips, would we love to pick all our family up and plonk them here in Canada with us, of course! But ultimately life is better here for us all. The first year is the hardest for sure but as you build your life there and continue to the UK becomes less and less of something you want Also for us our cost of living is the opposite, we are better off here in Canada than the UK haha probably helps being that way round 😂
