Agreed. Meryl Streep - meh, but Ellen Barkin in Animal Kingdom phenomenal. She is so ruthless; she uses her sons as commodities or currency to get what she wants with absolute no thought to their well being. It’s great to see that she is a nice, normal person in regular life because she is so absolutely convincing as Smurf.

I didn’t realize how great of an actor she was/is, until I started watching Animal Kingdom. Can’t picture anyone else playing that part. Excellent performance 🎭 PS. She obviously truly loves her craft. She was married to a billionaire and certainly doesn’t have to do anything. I don’t know what season 5 will bring but I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I hope that J shooting Smurf will be just a bad dream he had & in the opening of season 5, we’ll hear Smurfs voice say “hey J, baby, are you okay?, you’ve been sleeping all day” and then we see Smurf standing over him with the smile/smirk on her face that she perfected. That would be the BEST gift to all fans of AK for getting thru this awful year!!

This show is amazing. BEST SHOW ON TV. ELLEN BARKIN IS A SAVAGE!! SHE IS THE SHOW!! I was devastated when Baz died. Now Smurf?? What were the producers thinking? The show surprisingly went on after Baz but I don't know if the show can survive without Smurf!! Bring them both back. Especially for season 6. Let the boys try it on their own in season 5. I hope Deron takes over. But bring back Smurf and Baz for the last season.

She has never been any good. I like the show, but cant wait for her to be killed off. I know it is acting, but if you look at any actor in any role.....their true personality is the platform from which they build each character. She is either over acting in her character "Smurf", or more likely.......she truly thinks she is kinda hot....lol. Every character she has ever played has had that underlying characteristic. Fact is......she wasn't very good looking even before she got all of that HOLLYWOOD done to her face. Even when she was young. On a side note.....how many times can she possibly say "baby" in each episode?
