Ellen's Staff Member's Heartwarming Story

If you've been at the show, you've seen Ellen's warm-up guy, Tom Riles, getting the audience excited. He and his wife recently went through one of the toughest times of their lives when their newborn baby fought for her life... and today Ellen asked him to tell his heartwarming story.

God-bless this woman in every way and capacity. Ellen come you are the inspiration that this world needs. Being a nurse for 20 years I see the best and the worst in people. Unfortunately the way health care has been going the last 2 decades and with all the other crab going hot in the world, you are definitely the good people need to see and they need to pay it forward. Which is what I try to do every day with my step kids. With my college boyfriend. His wife just died of cancer 2 years ago so I moved 5 States to take care of them. And taking care of these 3 kids has been nothing short of difficult. You have shown me how to smile every day, and pay a forward even of its through 3 kids common a morning husband. Perfect strangers my patience and everybody in my life especially my yes a dog. You're a wonderful human being and a really wish more people in the world were like you thank you for everything you do. You are an amazing person I just wish more people could see and do and be the way you are. When my little girl said I wanna be a pediatrician, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, I am 41 soon to be in a few days… and I said I wanna be Ellen Phone. I asked why I said look at the good she does for the world she does more for this country than anybody ever could. At least for the people in it. You are a hero, and icon, and what this world needs

I started this channel for my first born Camara who died December 11th after celebrating her 9th birthday on Dec 7th. She loved your shows. Even when she went thru her sickle cell pains, she watched ur shows in bed on her smart phone. I just need her memory to be alive and i need steve harvey on this one two. My sister went through the same thing as a new born child moreover, she had downsyndrome but my family was strong and positive. To be honest, there are millions of people who have gone through the same thing but not everyone knows how to handle it. I feel that this is a great example to help out all those families who are or maybe will go through the same situation as the them.

I love Ellen stories but this one especially touched me. My cousin was born with a heart defect and the story is exactly the same. Except my cousin passed away a month after his birth. I wish this baby a happy and healthy life especially for the babies who didn't get to live theirs!

Loving this story! So happy to hear she's doing well and thriving! My husband is an adult Pediatric CV Patient who has had (3) open heart surgeries, the first at 9 mos. old and the most recent in 2005 when our daughter was just 10 weeks old - we are very thankful to our wonderful Drs at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC! Here's hoping that baby Barbara continues to thrive as my husband has!

I've had 4 openhearts also, I was givven CPR 5 times, had surgery 6 times on my legs and the doctors said as soon as I was born I have the tiniest chance of survival and here I am 14 years later.... Still living a healthy life!
