@HarborSite-74 ай бұрын
This brings back some great memories. I remember learning this bass line as a 13 year old aspiring bass player in 1984. Those were the days! Maiden has always been one of my personal favorites, especially as a bass player following Steve Harris. This young lady makes it look so easy and is certainly way ahead of where I was at her age. Bravo Ellen!
@3rdstone13 ай бұрын
Hearing bass lines like this on the Killers album back in early 80s made me realise that bass could be a cool instrument. Til this day I hold Killers as my favourite Maiden record, and still sometimes play this riff on my bass. 40+ years later, it's crazy how it holds on. And thanks to super amazing little Ellen for keeping this and other cool bass lines relevant in her incredible uplifting videos.

@@3rdstone1 Right on my friend, you have good taste in music. It's nice to hear from a fellow bass guy who appreciates the chops of a great player like Harris. And yes what an excellent album _Killers_ was. Its U.S. release of May 11 fell exactly on my 10th birthday. 🤟

@@HarborSite-7 One could argue that Bruce was the better singer which I can understand (but not so important to me), but this album with the one and only Clive Burr on drums (more important) is totally amazing. The inspirations from 70s prog rock are also obvious here, even though Maiden did their own thing with this new modern heavy metal genre. Like I said, I'd never heard bass being played like this before. And damn, Murray's and Smith's awesome guitar work also made a huge impression. Such a perfect and classic album.

Did everybody notice how she had to look at her fingers? If you are wondering why, it is because Steve Harris basslines are not easy to play. She is doing it with tiny hands too. When she gets bigger and older, she is really going to be something extra special, if she is this good at this age.

@@jlobiafra I never saw it either, but that does not mean he can't. The bass player from Haim did not play slap until she did. I think Ellen is trying to master many styles of bass. She is good enough to do that I think. Harris has mastered Iron Maiden bass lines.

Ellen, let's give your father a lot of credit here. This is one of the best sounding recordings on youtube. The actual soumd is 100 percent crystal clear. The drums fit perfectly with your bass playing. U didn't miss one note or hesitate for a second! A perfect.performance for a perfect recording. Also, thanku! It was more than the new standard of 15 seconds! I love it!! Thanks again for having the zoom meets. As I said before, Tina Guo also has them on Patreon. I wish Sierra Eagleson did the same, but she hasn't posted a thing since April. I think I'm going to ask my friends in my musical family if they even know about patreon. If they know how easy it us to use and communicate with fans. I think everyone is waiting for zoom to find a way to allow live performances. As you amd your father discovered, it's not easy to produce live music from your own studio or home. I think we will still be in limbo on this topic for at least another decade. The good news is that another amazing piece of tech awaits us all! I'm aureus this new tech will be amazing. It will be magical and just like Harry Potter giving us a tour of Howgarts. Best wishes always, Robert zeligson

Listening to this album as a 15yo shortly after it came out, I suddenly realised that bass can be an awesome instrument thanks to Steve Harris. I'm mostly a guitarist, but love playing bass as well (this riff is often played, it's just that catchy and brlliant lol). Til this day I hold the Killers album as my favourite Maiden album. Their prog rock inspirations would never be as obvious as on this record. And Clive Burr's (RIP) drumming is amazing. After that I discovered lots of other fantastic music during the decades. And regarding amazing Ellen: God bless her little heart for making us old folks prolong our lives at least one week every time we watch her uplifting videos. Also seeing young girls seriously aspiring on instruments, instead of hoping to be a star singer these days always gives me hope for the future.

I'm 53 and I've been a drumner since I was a kid, and to this day I will never understand how someone learns how to play a guitar. People are jealous of my drumming, but I say Man I just hit things with sticks in rhythm. The talent it takes to play guitar I think far outweighs the talent required to play the drums.
