I'm catching up on your earlier videos. Victor Wooten has been a huge influence on my playing ever since I first heard him with Bela Fleck years ago. How fortunate you are to have him as a personal coach and inspiration. His approach to practice should be infused into every music program and by every music teacher.

And the way you play this exercise at the beginning, I thought it's the Spirit Crusher intro originally played by a very scary band, but it should rather be called a Spirit Raiser in this case. It'll be wonderful to stay on this channel and just watch you play.

The best times I had on my bass was when I was a kid and just played and learned songs and bass lines. Never practiced explicit scales I just played and as an adult I lost a bit of that natural approach and now I got back to it.

As kids we all learn by playing this is how we develop our basic skills, some how as we grow education les a side the power of fun and put focus on discipline. of course discipline is necesary to achieve your objetives, but is a fun experience whats keeps you motivated. Go Ellen keep playing and practicing hard, and do not forget to have fun!!!

No, never stop, it will take some time, but if you put in the time you will learn. Watch Ellen and get inspired. I've played the bass for 30+ years and still find inspiration from many people, like Victor Wooten, John Myung, MISA, and now Ellen. Ellen shows you the joy of playing, never forget what is important with music, it's being able to play with joy :-) Thanks to Ellen and dad for yet another great video :-) Your exersice at the end sounds like a song from a prog rock band I once played with, the song was our own composition. It used a lot of 1-b5-8 over many chords, very close to your exercise.

Hi Ellen. Your dad is an excellent musician and a good instructor. You have lots of good coaches so you should be able to reach new levels and be a tremendous inspiration to others. Make sure he teaches you the jazz standards. The whole catalog is like a school of music theory and the many songs are good to know because you can jam anywhere. I love practicing scales. The modes of the major scale are important to understand, but the diminished (half-whole), melodic, and harmonic minor scales are fun because they sound different and are interesting.

Most important lessons here! Enjoy what you play! Explore the scales by playing with the notes. And you do just that. You hear the songs within the notes. And that in itself is super important!
