Absolutely elegant. When todays modern tech fails due to the EMP bombs this will just keep humming along.

4:40 what do these do?
@teescottageguyproductionsАй бұрын
Great question!! That spinning device is called the governor. The governor is the speed control for the steam engine. As the steam engine runs it spins the governor by a series of belts or gears & shafts. As the engine builds up speed/revs the centrifugal force of the governor forces the balls to spread out on the governor. The balls then move a series of linkages which either alters the steam engine’s valve timing or steam flow to control the engine’s speed and stop it going too fast. If it goes too fast then it can act like an emergency stop and trip the engine which shuts off the steam and stops the engine. Hope this helps!!! Thanks, James 😀

That's where the phrase "Balls Out" comes from.

Another excellent video James. When are you going to get around and take the blacksmith course at Tee's Cottage?

Was the large drum used to reel cable in and out? Looks like one that was used in the copper mines of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to bring copper ore to the surface.
@teescottageguyproductionsАй бұрын
The drum had cables running off it which turned shafts which powered the cotton mill.

What does the mill make?
@teescottageguyproductions21 күн бұрын
It was a cotton mill, it doesn’t make anything anymore since the weaving shed was demolished
"World's largest"? What about the River Don Engine in Sheffield? That's certainly larger, is working and it's certainly a "mill engine" since it powered a steel rolling mill - do you mean cotton mill engine?
@teescottageguyproductionsАй бұрын
The river don engine is smaller in size but it’s more powerful, when they refer to the mill engine they mean a cotton mill engine yes.

The trencher field engine has to be very close Fun Fact that was the engine the Japanese Ananime people looked at for the epic Steamboy flick .
