Payson is one of our go to destinations each winter. We found diamond point 4 years ago. My wife found a dandy last February. We are flat landers and it takes a lot of energy from our bodies to be there and dig but it gets easier. Dont forget the geodes just a few miles further up the road 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Payson is a fun area. I'm glad you were able to get some crystal points. It is a beautiful area with various types of rocks. Keep having fun! Be happy, safe and stay healthy. 😷⚒

On the road heading towards Kohl's Ranch Lodge, the creek beds were excellent sources of the points and fossils 50 plus years ago! Spend much time collecting there as a youngster!

Really interesting Geology around there, and ALL over AZ. I live in Yuma, and have made many trips out of Town, for Geodes, Amethyst, Citrine, Olivine (Peridot), Turquoise, LOTS of Quartz and any other interesting things that are found. All it takes is going to the area, and just simply looking around, exploring/enjoying Nature. I have also checked out Opal Mines within a few hours travel from my house. Geode beds bout 1/2 hour drive away. The Queen if Arizona Mine is bout 3-4 hours away, a BIG TIMESTEP BACKWARDS, BUT AMAZING!! There is also the location where a Large Silver Mine was located that was Founded in 1862, Castle Dome Mining Co. is the name, Its so long ago closed its not funny. But I picked up somewhere/when a memento from there a Silver Ingot Stamped with their name and Founders date, it weighs about 4 oz. solid Silver that was extracted from the ore and Smelted down and then poured into the Ingot sized molds, then stamped. If I could figure out how/where I could send a pic of the Ingot. I think its pretty damn cool, and Historical.

Drove a class to Herkimer a few years ago. They did have a bad fire there, but have rebuilt. A lot of fun looking for those "diamonds"

Try these coordinates. 34 18.112N 111 11.863W This is more of a hole in the ground with a stair case. Still cool though....

Stream bed will be hard to find good ones. You'll mostly find chips and tiny ones.

Hey you finally made it. Unfortunately there are some folks that still dig big holes and don't fill em . I could show you were to find some decent quality sized ones. I know that area well. It is so fun learning how to find them

Elley Just saw your Mohs' hardness video. You and your farther can figure out much Niagara Falls get larger each year in the hard ness of that rock. Then in your area the Grand Canion in that hardness of that rock figure out how long it took for that to take to take place. You can be closer than geologist said what happen - like ice age how many miles high the ice was. Gareth that has been on earth 80 year and the Adirondack mt. has got 8 inches higher since I have been here. If I am wrong it is because some where on Clarkson University web page I found it.
