its the same with me here. my trist with bollywood songs started maybe in early 2002 2003 or somehting like that, and i was transfixed. i used to sit infront of the tv and be glued to the screen, waiting for the next song to come up. at that time, i did not know what a playback singer was, although singers like alka yagnik, udit narayan, kavita krishnamorti, kumar sanu, sonu nigam, and many others around that time were the first batch of singers that i was introduced to. and this was around the same time that devdas had just come out, so shreya ghoshal was also a new voice that i was introduced to. so this went on for some time, and then i was introduced to much older music like the late Lata mangeshkar, Asha bhosle, Mohammed rafi, Kishore kumar, Mukesh, and all the other big names from the golden era too. off course, i had a lot of self doubt in my head, that how can i do this? will they except me even if i am a foreigner? etc. i mean, i liked it, but i was a bit sceptical about geting in to the indian music industry as a singer. then the 360 turn came in 2016. i was sitting at home listening to the soundtrack of mangal pandey the rizing, composed by the mozart of madrass himself: A. R. Rahman. i was in love with the song holi re from the same film, so i said to myself, hang on, let's explore the soundtrack and see what we get. so i started from the first song, and at once i sat up and took notice of my future idol Kailas Kher. here is the thing, i knew his name, but i couldn't put two and two together of who KAilash Kher was. sometimes i would hear his name, and sometimes his singing, but i couldn't put the pieces together yet. so here i was in 2016, finally putting the pieces together, and i was in aw. one part of my brain was like: is that Kailash Kher? wow! and another part of my brain was like: off course its Kailash Kher, how could i be so dumb! so after i became a Kailash Kher fan in 2016, my self doubt barior was broken, and i finally took the plunge of starting my playback singing dreams. i said to myself: if people like sunidhi chauhan or Kailash Kher can make it in to the industry, then so can i! i can do this! so i finally broke the ice, and now i am getting my dreams lined up. i have learned 3 years of hindustani classical singing in order to have a trained voice for playback singing or to sing difficult songs in the hindi films, or even classical bassed songs in general, so yeah i am good to go. and thanks to stuff like the internet and social media, i can share my tallent and passion for indian music in general with people from not only india but all over the world. and i would love to sing for my countrymen elli avram one day. hope my playback dreams will come true. hello from an iranian woman who loves indian music in general irrespective of language all the way from Sweden: Nicki Rafiei.

If I’ll have to assume blindly I’d not be able to say that she’s from Sweden. This shows how much she has been habituated with the Indian culture. Not a lot people can do that specially when you can coming from a developed country to a fairly poor nation.
