Weirdo world. Thanks Ellie for mentioning that harassment starts before you said stop. Vital info. My wife was stalked every morning as she walked to work, the driver in the car would slow down to walking speed and sound the horn, he wound the window down and tried to speak to her, offering a lift, a date etc., she got very scared. This went on for weeks One morning I decided to walk 100m behind her across the road and it happened again, so I took a photo of the reg plate and called the Police who issued him with a restraining order, turned out he was a married man with 3 kids - not anymore.

I'm so pleased for Ellie, that she was eventually taken seriously! I have been stalked for years by a man who lives in a flat opposite me, and the police handling of it has been completely negligent. The police have even admitted it, and that it has been handled poorly. My local Councillor has tried to get the police to take my case seriously and yet nothing has been done 😔 I can relate to Ellie's story. You live in constant fear of leaving or returning to your home, I'm a prisoner in my own home. I Essentially experienced lockdown times 2, and now still remain in a kind of lockdown. To this day the police have done nothing. 😔 I feel I will only feel safer if I move. The police have said due to his proximity to my home, he is not a stalker.😔 and its not the case in reality. He follows me even though he lives in the areas, and tries to approach me and talk to me. It's scary! it's been devastating that the police have been so negligent particularly with the Sarah Everard and other publicised cases which were in the news around the same time I reported it to them. We need help.

Definition of harassment:- Being approached by a bloke you don't find sexually attractive! Worry not. Men have got the message. That's why overwhelmingly now, men never approach or date & would most certainly never marry a woman. Don't worry about Ms. Costello. She'll be fine with her boxed wine, Ben & Jerry's & a cat!
@sophiep72562 жыл бұрын
@stuart. Oh, get over yourself and your self-pitying victimhood. You're twisting everything you can into 'misandry', when the only victim (in this case) is the woman. Stop exploiting the stories of real victims, just so you can claim to be eternally victimised instead. He didn't just 'approach' her. He spent SIXTEEN MONTHS sending her letters, flowers, demands for contact, hanging around her workplace, etc. That was despite her making it perfectly clear from the VERY START, that she wasn't interested in his advances (and didn't want messages from him). If you think that is just a normal 'approach', my man, you sadly need psychotherapy yourself. That is instead a disturbing obsession, and a clear indicator he has no respect for normal boundaries. You don't think most people would worry, after telling a person to leave them alone, to then get messages like: 'How long do I have to wait to see you? It's driving me insane.'? You don't think it's worrying he wasn't getting the clear message, and apparently has delusions that a 'relationship' will happen anyway (regardless of her wishes)? It isn't worrying that he then escalated the forced contact, by following her around? You think most people wouldn't then worry, just how far he's going to go, to get what he wants from her? If he's that hellbent on ignoring boundaries and forcing contact upon her (contact that was escalating), she would naturally worry he might escalate it to breaking into her home or worse. He's made it clear he's determined to have a sexual/romantic relationship with her (regardless of what she says). So what's he going to do next, to force his desires on her? If you think this is how 'normal' men approach women, you seriously need professional help. Wake up from your self-focused slumber, and recognise cases in which women really ARE the victims (not the perpetrator).

I think women are used to the fact, not to be taken seriously, to be seen hysteric, and to be seen to exaggerate and overreacting. Finally, to feel guilty, like: "if I had done this ...., or if I had reacted more early ... " and so on, simply conscious or subconscious blame them self, and feel ashamed, perhaps, that's why they don't want to tell anyone. This seems in our blood from early age. To explain such a situation to a male is almost impossible ( sorry if this sounds so general, but my experience in that way has never changed all my life, and I am quite old now.) I also find it so ignorant, to ask for "strength" on behalf of the woman, who is harassed. Thank you for coming out with this terrible story of what happened to you and that you don't try to hide your fear and anxiety.

In the U.S. restraining orders last forever, until a victim lifts the order with the court. The downside to a restraining order is it is only a piece of paper. It has no super powers. A true stalker can not resist what they do. They will continue and sometimes to a deadly end. She still needs to be aware and watchful...unless he is in a jail cell.
@joseeallyn99502 жыл бұрын
See my reply above. Restraining orders are so often an incitement to violence rather than restraining the abusive person. Too many women are killed or maimed with a restraining order. Stalking a stalker is more effective even than jail, especially with hardware!

I’m currently binge watching ‘Airline’ and Leo has just come into it. I did watch it back in the day. I’m pretty sure he gave out some creepy vibes on that as well. I remember him trying to win his ex back by buying her lingerie.

First, BRAVO for Ellie for reporting it before it got worse. Sadly, it was Leo Jones from Airline, so cute so loveable, think he'd have a dozen lady chasers

No one should go through that. But it’s funny that when they stalked people for news they use “I was doing my job” lol

you have PTSD due to all this stress and its something you will live with for the rest of your life but you can manage and control it but as you said its something that will always be there in the background, just try and find positive thjings to hang onto, i have had it for over 10 years after 30 years in the Army so i am begging you please go talk to a professional about it before it hits you to the extent that you just cannot function, keep well and happy

A diagnosis? Very good, now all you need is her to send you a consultation fee and you're on your way to being a part time amateur psychiatrist. I would imagine that someone who's been in the armed forces is likely to actually have PTSD, but not so much this lady, who was stalked for a while until it stopped.
@jacobs3031 Жыл бұрын
@@fluxingtonI don't think there's any cure for PTSD sadly just temporary relief. There's a fella where I work ex para trooper in Iraq and afghan his head has completely gone always in another world hardly looks couscous at times.

The way the male presenter, Stephen? laughed at, 03:01, turned my stomach, I'm sure it was a kind of reflex response, without the intent to minimise the threat to his colleague, but I found his laugh a little unnerving. Ms Costello looked at him awkwardly, afterwards. Her look reflected the way I felt inside, that it is not something, in which to find amusement. No reference to her male co~worker, but some men will never understand how unsafe, this kind of warped attention, makes a woman feel. Men who are guilty of this compulsive, obsessive behaviour, are, over time, not in their right mind. Some may go on to kill, with the, "If I can't have you, then nobody else will," mentality. I ended a two year, abusive relationship, three years ago, informing my ex, that I no longer wanted any contact with him. A few months ago he was still knocking my door; calling out to me to speak to him. He has the mentality of a spoilt brat. After we broke up, he'd come knocking and doorstepping me for hours. I saw his behaviour as harassment but didn't realise it was instantly categorised as unlawful.

I think he laughed as in the absurd ness of the situation happening, as in he couldn’t believe what happened, not that he thought it was funny.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Laughing can often be an instinctive, subconscious response in the same way twitching, coughing or smiling can be. I tend to scratch my nose almost as a nervous twitch despite not consciously doing so and small chortles might be the nervous response of this presenter.
